iOS 5.0.1 - Made my iPhone 4S battery performance worse!

No need to be mean. The reason I am saying it is not a software issue per say is that many features were added to iOS 5 and by nature they are going to be more taxing on the hardware. When this happens, it means so will the battery. In essense what I am saying is the equivalent increase in battery to support the notification center and a few other changes was not made. One reason why it might take more battery than is desired that because the center finalizes the iphone running out of memory, which mine does all of the time. When this occurs, it increases the CPU usage while it tries to free memory and dumps, as well as putting some memory on the disk. This increases battery usage drastically. What im saying is the main problem is the hardware is not supportive of the software. Still the increases in usefulness and changes in software brought about by 5 were definately needed.

Iv testes a simple battery 'fix' in my iPhone 4S. I went to sleep, and this time i turned off Wifi, and of course 3G and Bluetooth that at home are always off.

I woke up 8h after with only 1% less of battery. Its just something that could be usefull for some. Apple should have a nice shortcup (like sbsettings) to turn off wifi 3g and important stuff easily, that would work for most.

i faced the same situation but after searching over internet i'v found the solution to fix my battery life.

solution:
settings>general>date and time>set automatically>turned off. that's it.
set manually your location.

it solves the battery drain issue for me now i am 2 days 3 hours standby on 3% battery indicator.

Try turning off WiFi and Bluetooth when not in use... Also adjust the screen brightness to a lower setting... Another thing you can try is: Closing all apps when they're not in use... (just double tap the home button to see open apps)

Check this out and try it again don't forget to turn off set time zone from the location system services

How do you expect to have good battery life when you have Location Services On, wireless On, bluetooth on, Notifications and push notifications on for every application??? When you do not use wifi turn it off, when you do not use Location Services turn it off and so on...my wife has 4S, bought by me for christmas and from 10 pm till 9 am in the morning the battery drops only 4%.

Also set your time manually, do not be too lazy to do this, and disable automatic change of time.

These are by default on when one takes the iPhone 4s out of the box!!! Do you mean that Apple is wrong in keeping those settings on? Do the users know better than turning off settings which Apple sets as on?

Are you aware that iPhone 4S is turning off the Wifi automatically when the iPhone 4s goes in standby even if you leave it connected to the Wifi (you can see this when you take the iPhone 4s out of standby mode and for 2-3 seconds it will display the 3G sign and only after it will display the Wifi sign)? Why one should turn off the Wifi if iPhone 4s is turning off by itself automatically? You know that iPhone 4s is sold as a smartphone and not as a dumb phone. Right?

That sounds better than even specification released by Apple for iPhone 4S. Shortly in your case it looks like the standby of your iPhone 4s is 275 hours and the Apple's specification says that it is 200 hours!!!

Do you mean that iPhone 4s is a dumb phone which needs to be told what to do and when to do it? Clearly iPhone 4s is sold as a smart phone which is supposed to figure out by itself and automatically when some of its features are used and when not. iPhone 4s is a super expensive phone and it should better be good at doing things automatically and not expect the user to manually turn off settings depening if he or she needs it.

If you don't want to do these things be my guest and have it your way. I was just saying what are the main things that could drain the battery, and mainly not about what the 4S "should be" doing. It's clearly that is not doing some things as it should be so you have to do them yourself.

I surely do not mind setting the clock manually and of course turning off location services when I do not use GPS, because I am not that idiot to forget where I have taken some pictures, to ever need to have location on them. I am not saying that 4S is perfect, but as others do these things to keep their battery in normal standars you should too, but as always we Romanians are only about fancy airs, ******** and other stuff like this.

All this is false!

iPhone uses 802.11 standard power save mode and does not turn off wifi completely while sleeping. It periodically polls the AP and if the AP has messages (Ethernet frames) for the phone, it wakes up the wifi radio fully to do it's thing.

This is trivial to verify, by looking at the AP association table.

Strange...both my wife's and my iPhone 4S drop out of the AP client association table a while after they go into sleep. Pinging the supposed ip addresses (static IPs) of the iPhones does not seem to bring them back into association either. Probably some problems with my router (DIR-655). Anyone can verify?

You can be sure that iPhone wifi doesnt drop when standby or sleep. Thats why you all should use the services that you need or turn them off to save battery.

I cant tell you that standby with all off just normal signal phone ON. In 9 hours standby/sleep my iphone 4s 5.0.1 spends 7/8 % battery, 1% for hour +-
