create hidden folder

I am a newbie to Mac, TA DA, and have a question. In windows, to hide a folder, you just had to change it's properties with a right click. Can anyone tell me how to create and hide a folder in Lion? I have a manuscript that I am working on that no one else needs to read until I say so. How can I store this on my mac and hide it, yet have it available to me when I am working on it? Thanks for your help.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

In Terminal, enter: chflags hidden, then space, then drag the folder into the Terminal window, then press return.

To open it, in Finder, ⇧⌘G, and enter the folder name.

However, a much better option is to use an encrypted disk image

Hiding folders is not data protection. If you have concerns about snooping, you should be using encryption and you should not be letting anyone else use your account.
