missing addresses in Motorola SLVR / RAZR

I'm using a Motorola SLVR L7 (it has virtually identical software as the RAZR line) and I've successfully used iSync to get my contacts from Address Book into the phone. However, the address, city, state, zip are all blank in the phone, even though all my Address Book contacts have work/home addresses filled in. How do I get all the info, not just phone numbers and email addresses into the SLVR?

(I'm using the latest Mac OX 10.4 and latest iSync 2.1.1 and latest Address Book 4.0. I've tried browsing the phone and card via Bluetooth and USB, but there doesn't seem to be a folder for contacts or vCards.)

I wonder if this has to do with the fact that Motorola's phone don't have a REAL address book. I like their phones (just got a SLVR L7 myself), but the phone software really stinks.

BTW, did you have to do anything special to sync your phone?

iSync says that it can't sync to my SLVR. While setting up the phone with the Bluetooth Assistant, I get a message saying that there were no services available for the phone.

I was able to sync to my friend's RAZR without any problems, so I'm not sure why I'm having this problem with the SLVR.

I downloaded the Nova iSync patch which was posted last week on this messageboard and on www.maccentral.com. It includes drivers for a number of new phones not yet on the iSync list. Then, I just went into the the SLVR's bluetooth set-up made the phone discoverable and then did a device search in Apple's bluetooth device set-up.

I agree with your post though; I couldn't get addresses to populate my phone at all. I did find an option to include email addresses and fax numbers in .Mac sync options and those got onto my phone. I sure miss having the addresses though. I used to have a Siemens phone which included the addresses in its iSync, but my SE T637 and this one do not.

Well, it looks like I'm a bit out of luck right now.

I found some more info on other forums that suggest that my problem is due to the German firmware.

As I mentioned, my problem is that Bluetooth Assistant thinks the phone doesn't have ANY services. So, it's assuming it can't sync, transfer files, etc. Other people have mentioned this problem with phones purchased off eBay that come with German firmware.

It sounds like I need to update my phone with US firmware, in order to solve this problem. Of course, the required software is Windows-only, as well as being nearly impossible to find... (not available to the general public).

I keep telling myself that, at least I saved some money and didn't have to lock myself into another 2 years with Cingular...

Have you tried usb?

Yes, I wasn't very clear about that.

Syncing over USB does work with iSync (although the street address info doesn't seem to transfer to the phone).

I'm mainly lamenting the fact that Bluetooth syncing and file transfer doesn't work with the phone right now. It was the #2 item on my "Must Have" list for a phone.

Motorola says that the SLVR's Bluetooth is only for voice (that is, a Bluetooth headset).

This isn't a problem with iSync. It's a problem with the SLVR. If you want to use the SLVR with iSync, you have to keep the USB cable around.

I'm not sure why Motorola did this. I'm assuming that it's because it's an iTunes phone and they didn't want to support transferring songs over Bluetooth...

Maybe I'm wrong. I've been doing a lot of comparisons, and have seen a lot of people complaining about this, and after talking to the Best Buy guy, he gave me the impression that Bluetooth was only meant as a headset for this phone.

However, I now see that Windows users can sync to this phone and populate every field without any trouble... so I guess it is an Apple problem. It's such a popular phone -- you would think Apple would fix things.

I totally agree... I upgraded from an old Sony Ericsson phone--- with no bluetooth. Most of the reason for me getting a new phone (SLVR L7) was that I wanted to sync via bluetooth. For the most part, iSync does a great job syncing my contact names/phone numbers AND iCal entries.

However, I agree, It is a bit dissapointing that all of the Address Book contact info doesnt get transferred as well... Also, the To-DO list in iCal doesnt transfer.

However, it is a very NICE phone and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a fairly Mac-Friendly phone.

I also agree that there is alot more software that comes with the Motorola CD for the SLVR.... Hopefully, Apple will put more functionality into iSync/SLVRsync.

OHHH where is the Apple Phone/iPhone ? 😉

Anyone do a whois on 'iphone.org' ? 😉 If not, do it.

If anyone has any fixes for the sync issue, PLEASE email me: wsellers@gmail.com

Just got a SLVR and found Bluetooth syncing very easy, EXCEPT the problem noted here about addresses (street, city, etc.) not being sync'ed. I even tried entering one on the phone, but it wouldn't replicate on the iMac. Must be a lockout on the software.

Hope someone finds and posts a workaround as I really would like to have addresses in my "Address Book". I could dump the old PDA...

I plan to contact Apple and Motorola to request a fix--if lots of us do that if may have some affect, who knows?

Please let us know what email/web address/phone number you used to contact Apple and Moto about this issue. I would be happy to request a fix as well, and hopefully all SLVR L7 Mac users will jump on the bandwagon. If you supply the contact info it will make it easier for people to take the time to request a fix, plus make sure we are all doing it at the same place.
