iOS 5.0.1 SIM card not detected

Hello everyone,

I just updated my 3GS from iOS 5.0.0 to 5.0.1

Since the update, Itunes says that no SIM card is detected, and the iPhone says that it cannot be activated. It also obviously does not detect any network.

I tried restarting the phone several times, removing the SIM card several times, but it did not change anything, the SIM is still not detected.

It was working perfectly fine with iOS 5.0.0

My iPhone 3GS is doing the same thing. I thought it was something I did with a restore but now I see that it looks to be a problem with OS 5.0.1. Has anyone been able to solve the problem? I have tried my two AT&T sims and my German O2 sim and it will not detect either. Now I have an expensive paper weight that lets me input language, country, location services, and wifi connections. Then I am stuck and can't get to the main iPhone home screen because it can't detect the sim for activation.

I had this issue too. I did an OTA update.

I tried turning off my iPhone, removed and reinserted my SIM and turning it on again a few times without success. I also inserted my wife's SIM, it was OK. When I tried with mine again, it was not. I also tried going in and out of Airplane Mode too without success.

Afte a bit of trial and error, I finally got it to work.

What I did was:

1. Turn off WIFI.

2. Turn off my iPhone.

3. Removed and reinserted my SIM.

4. Turned on my iPhone. Almost immediately I saw the "3G" indicator and after a couple of seconds, my SIM worked!

5. Turned WIFI back on.

From my issue, it seems the iOS 5.0.1 update got "confused" with the network setup.

HIH.

I can't even get past the activation screens to go into settings and adjust the airplane mode, etc....I just get could not activate phone. Tells me to contact apple support in order to fix the problem. This is the second day that I have been working on this and I have probably shut it down 15 times. It does allow me to connect to a wifi source but I can't do anything with it.

Hello I'm hear to tell you a way to temporarily bypass the "sim card activation" screen...

1.) press "home" button

2.) select "emergancy call"

3.) type in 911

4.) Hold the "lock/power" button until it says slide to power off.

5.) select cancel

6.) on the top of screen it will say "tap here to go back to call" select it

7.) end call and you will be in your iPhone until you lock it. You can do whatever you want except download apps music ect. Go on wifi and you can go on safari and such.

To apple: I am very disappointed in you and the firmware upgrade. Now I have a paper weight :/ trying to figure out how the **** I can activate it. Tbh I don't need the iPhone I just use it as my iPod and thanks to this I can't. Oh and I bought the iPhone off my friend for 30 dollars because my iPod snapped in half because of my little sister. So may I recommend making a new firmware that allows you to choose the option of either using your iPhone as a "itouch" or an iPhone. That would make many people happy and more willing to accept the "I devices" because it seems more people today don't use the "I devices" because they are restricted. But hey who am I to say that Mabey this new firmware that allows you to choose iPhone to be itouch or iPhone; leading there to be a major increase in profits. Because of a problem in the 5.0.1 firmware where you have to activate iPhone with SIM even if your using it as an iPod. And imagine how happy customers will be about this improvement, and when people are happy they tell friends and family about this and that is what is going to make the major profits. :)

Ps: Does anyone know if I can use a friends SIM to activate but than just give it back? After activated and on home screen permanently?

It's just doing fine after upgraded to iOS 5.0.1. But just right after one day, I had switched off my iPhone 4 for charging and turn on my iPhone the next day. It had just prompted me "No SIM card installed". I had tried soft-reset and hard reset. changing new SIM card from the Telco; put on 1/4 transparent tap near the SIM tray to avoid short-circuit. All didn't work for me. After search on net, and have got to know that this was one of the issue for users who upgraded their iPhone to iOS 5.0.1. 😟

I had tried soft-reset and hard reset.

There is no such thing as "soft" or "hard" reset for iPhones. Soft & hard reset are obsolete DOS era PC terms and using them here just confuses others since they mean different things to different people. There is only one phone reset and several settings resets. See the iPhone User Guide for troubleshooting steps: Restart, Reset. Restore.

After search on net, and have got to know that this was one of the issue for users who upgraded their iPhone to iOS 5.0.1.

A full search will show that it involves only certain cell carriers and possibly certain lots of SIM cards,

I got the No SIM condition on a 3GS having just upgraded from IOS 5.0 to IOS 5.0.1. All my data was intact but I had no network connectivity. I ended up going into my Canadian carrier Bell Mobility and they replaced the SIM card for free.

The 3GS was purchased in March 2010 so is almost two years old. They told me that Bell Mobility SIM cards ending in 05 to 09 are old and will be replaced. And yes, I did try all the documented tricks of cold boots, removing the SIM, flipping airplane mode off and on, turning off wifi, bluetooth, etc. The techie tried Reset Network Settings and nothing worked. All is well after the SIM replacement. Maybe it is a coincidence but I doubt it.

I got the same thing when I upgraded to 5.0.1 on my 3gs via itune and now I can't even connect to wi-fi or get it to open in itunes because I believe there is a baseband on it?

I bought mine from ebay already unlocked but not tethearded because I'm not that smart at doing this type of thing. So, I have no idea what baseband it is on nor do I know how to fix it? None of the advise which is posted on this thred helps or works!

Stuck with a $300 rock and ******!
