After upgrading to 5.0.1 my iPhone is draining the battery even faster! Anyone else seeing this problem?
I can confirm that I didn't have any issues with 5.0. Now that I am on 5.0.1 I am experincing battery issues.
That should be "usage" not "USA"
I didn't have battery issues other than I am wearing mine out.
That said....
I had updated to IOS5 with no issues.
I took it to tha Apple store to check out my battery since it doesn't keep charge nearly as well after 14 months use.
They said I had a software issue and need to do a firmware level update.
Well, that gave me the location services bug.
The update to 5.0.1 didn't change that at all.
I use my phone as GPS when driving from place to place and since the update the Apple store did I noticed the GPS icon wouldn't go away by itself after using my phone for navigation. Which I assume means the GPS chip is still active.
So until they fix this I have to manually turn the chip off.
I turn off location services long enough for the icon to go away, (usually about 2 seconds) then turn it back on.
Without doing this I can't make it through the day on a full charge.
I thought it was my imagination! My battery keeps going down fast even on standby! Glad to hear that it was not my imagination. It all started with the ios5 update. Hope they fix soon. I cant go 1 full day without recharging. I used to get 2-3 days out od my battery.
Battery going down very fast on my iPhone4s 5.0.1..
As noted earlier in my post I have been experiencing the same as all of you. I took the advice of another poster and did a hard reset. It's a ton better. at least it appears that way so far. Earlier today I was loosing about 20% an hour after the update. I did the hard reset and in the last hour only lost about 4%. I have made no changes to any settings. Even 4% an hour isn't good but it's better than 20%.
Regarding iOS5 and its recent update, I get the impression than complaining about the battery draining has become an obsession that is not based on reality. I just left my iPad 2 on standby for two hours to check for battery drain. The result: still at 80 percent. That's right, zero battery drain. I'm thinking that many of the claims of battery draining with ios5 and the recent update are based on a lack of understanding of what standby is, and that these folks think it means leaving the iPad or iPhone unattended with the screen on. And some of them may not even close all the apps in the background. Then surprise, the battery drains after several hours. My battery did not drain, because I turned off the screen without fully shutting off the device (which is standby mode). I also closed all the apps that had been running in the background. I also have all notifications off, and I leave iAds, setting time zone, and diagnostics shut off. Everything is off in iCloud except Find My iPad. I let my battery run down and fully recharge it once a month. Most of my location services (maps, hiking, Tripadvisor, augmented reality, Yelp) are set to on, but they are all not showing any activity or are grayed out which means they aren't running.
That's good to know. But having spent a few hours yesterday setting up my new phone, a hard reset isn't an acceptable fix.
On my Vz iPhone4s, updated to 5.01 about 24 hours ago. Charged overnight. After a long day, down to 67%. Usage of 2h39m with Standby of 12h37m. Not stellar but far from terrible also. I'd say a bit of an improvement from 5.00. I still see serious difference based on location. My house is way worse than my office - both have good 3G Cell strength and good WiFi strength (with wpa2 enabled) where the phone typically sits. I am convinced there is something strange going on in wireless (leaning towards wifi issue more than cell, but I could have that backwards) but have yet to experiment rigorously enough to tie it down.
Anybody else see significant differences based on location with similar usage patterns?
Oh yeah, on the iPad2 that I have been upgrading at each step (5.0, 5.01) also on Vz, seeing no abonormal battery drain. That's what's bothersome to me.
I never had the battery issue untill this update. 50% at 2 1/2 hours. 3GS
ugh, adding my 'me too' to this thread. battery life was 'normal' for iphone with 4s and 5.0, could get through a whole day with moderate use and still have around 20-30% left at night before charging.
after updating to 5.0.1 it's noticably worse. drains 20% in an hour with minimal use (7-8 mins total of safari, maps, email). location services are set to minimal, no push email, no bluetooth, etc.
wish i could downgrade back to 5.0. my iphone4 had the antenna problem that i could replicate 100% of the time, learned to live with it. this battery thing with the 4s is just as bad. not quite ready to jump ship yet but definitely open to other platforms now.
My battery is not even a question of if there's a problem.. I see some people saying they will keep an eye on it and see if the battery is better. Mine is so painfully obvious it's almost disturbing to watch. After having major battery drain issues on 5.0, and still the same issues on 5.0.1 .. I did a full DFU restore in itunes, set up as a completely new phone, havent installed a SINGLE app... EVERYTHING is off. Literally, everything that you can possibly turn off is off. No push, no notifcation services, no mail accounts setup, i went through all the settings and turn EVERYTHING off that apple has on by default.
I open up safari and browse this forum for a few minutes and my battery is dropping like someones drinking it through a straw. 2.5 minutes maxmimum (thats being generous) before 1% is gone. In 10 minutes I have just been watching it drain 1 by 1, right before my eyes. Just from safari.
This is crazy... I have never had a single battery issue before iOS5. What a huge HUGE mistake to upgrade. Completely massacred my phones battery. No joke my 1st gen iPhone that was heavily used since the day they were released can SMOKE the battery performance of my iPhone4 now ... That's just sad.
I was always incredibly impressed with my iPhone4 battery. I got through my entire days and usually even 2 days without charging since I am a light user.. Now to see it drain right infront of my eyes, I'm just completely in shock. Something is MAJORLY wrong with the firmware, not even a question.. Ridiculous really that something like this could go unnoticed in betas.
The fact that they go out of their way to make sure you can't go back to iOS4 is just like throwing salt in the wound. Stuck with this now and who knows how long it will take before another so called "fix" is out. *Sigh*. For the first time since I got my first iPhone I am EXTREMELY disappointed. I hope this is resolved quickly.
What do you mean by hard reset?
Thanks
My phones battery life isnt the only problem, it is getting ridiculously hot when charging. The metal around the unit was almost too hot to touch...
Somebody asked if anyone had done the whole reset thing and restore - I did.
I went from 3GS -->4.0-->5.0-->5.0.1. No problems with battery until 5.0 and even then it was relatively mild. When I jumped to 5.0.1 this morning I saw the big change in battery consumption. The phone battery life on standby dropped to 3 hours and the phone was warm all the time. I did a full restore and backup - still didn't solve the problem. As I mentioned earlier, I followed one persons suggestion on turning 'push' off with MS exchange ( and that's all I did) and it got a LOT better and the phone stays cool. Now I'm back to the way it was with 5.0 but not as good as it was with 4.0.
I'm sure they'll get it figured out.
