5.0.1 update--even worse battery life

After upgrading to 5.0.1 my iPhone is draining the battery even faster! Anyone else seeing this problem?

Obsession not based on reality? People don't know what standby is?

There might be a few people who don't know these things, but there is a significant number of us who do, who have had iDevices for a long time, AND ARE STILL EXPERIENCING BATTERY DRAIN UNDER iOS5.x

Just because there are some not having a problem does not mean the rest of us are simply morons who "leave their screen on and wonder why we have battery problems".

There are enough people to be statisically relevant who know what they are doing, who have reported it to Apple, who have applied all the proposed fixes (hard resets, turning off all background apps etc) and are still experiencing significant issues to show there is a real problem here, and are not just obsessing about something that doesn't exist in your opinion.

The only temporary fix that I have found that works for me is disabling most location services, and completely disabling iCloud. That isn't a fix, it is a work around, but at least I have gone from 6 hour battery life to 48 hours or so.

Of course, it means I might as well not have an iPhone, but I am waiting for the inevitable fix from Apple, when they sort themselves out and stop releasing immature products that have had insufficient testing in the wild.

Okay, maybe a few hundred people out of the several million who have updated to iOS5.x are experiencing something unusual with their battery life. And keep in mind that the millions who aren't having a problem are not likely to post here that everything is fine with their iDevice's battery life, as they are happily using their devices without a problem and see no reason to post here.

I laugh, though, when people report here that they are noticing a 2 percent drop after a certain amount of heavy usage, but they didn't do the math that would tell them that their battery life is actually about what Apple says it should be:

iPhone 4S:

  • Talk time: Up to 8 hours on 3G, up to 14 hours on 2G (GSM)
  • Standby time: Up to 200 hours
  • Internet use: Up to 6 hours on 3G, up to 9 hours on Wi-Fi
  • Video playback: Up to 10 hours
  • Audio playback: Up to 40 hours

Those are either/or times. Either 8 hours of 3G talk time, or 6 hours of 3G Internet use, etc. The time decreases if you have your screen brightness cranked up higher than normal, or have a weak 3G signal, etc. And many, many people have no clue that standby times are to be measured with the screen turned off, not on.

One person here posted that his iPhone's battery dropped a few percentage points after a certain amount of time, and then someone was kind enough to point out today that this meant he was getting 12.5 hours of heavy usage time which was quite good.

I am pratically with no cell working iphone since I upgraded to ioS 5.0. The iphone went off and on again at its own 'will'. ioS 5.01 took an entire day to finish upgrading - it was on a loop turning off and on the iphone.

After some of this the iphone kept strongly vibrating for some half an hour frightening me and making me fear the risk of an explosion.

I've put it inside an iron closed garbage basket and wait till it stop vibrating.

After, the ioS 5.01 finsihed upgrading but...surprise (??) : no better handling of battery. In my judgment it was permanently damaged since ioS 5.0 went within.

Now what ? I'm becoming sick and tired of apple and probably won't buy anything more from it.
