5.0.1 update--even worse battery life

After upgrading to 5.0.1 my iPhone is draining the battery even faster! Anyone else seeing this problem?

I updated to 5.0.1 yesterday. I'm using an iphone4. Before the update, it worked fine. I could use it for about two days, using GPS mapping and internet search--in fact I just spent a long weekend in a new city and the phone held a charge just fine, despite heavy GPS mapping to get around. Since updating yesterday, I can't even get data downloads: no GPS, no internet, no App updates, no newsfeeds. All I get is the spinning daisy with a 'loading' message. After a few minutes, the phone goes dark and I'm back to the passcode screen. I've talked to Apple and to ATT with no luck, waiting for an ATT call back tomorrow (on my land line). My iphone still can make calls, but I had to turn it off completely because the battery was draining like crazy and when I plugged it in to charge it, it started getting HOT! Yes Apple,I said HOT.

I think it might be a calibration issue. After updating from 5.0 to 5.0.1 my iPhone 4 went from perfectly normal battery life to draining about 10% per hour with minimal use. But it seems OK now.

I finally just turned on the video camera and let it record until the battery ran down to 1% and turned itself off. I put the phone in the charging dock until it was fully charged. Since then I've been using the iPhone for photos and some Safari and mostly in my pocket for the last hour and the battery has stayed on 100%.

I'm wondering if this is similar to the Lion update (10.6.x --> 10.7) whereby Spotlight had to go and reindex *everything* again and MacBooks and MacBook Pros where draining their batteries like crazy until the Shadow Copies and Indicies were rebuilt.

Here is what I did to fix the problem. I reset the device from the iPhone itself. I went through the verification process as a new phone. I did not connect it to iTunes or iCloud. I did it through wifi. At the the the phone was usable as a phone and it had nothing else on it. I downloaded my applications through wifi one by one. It was a painful process. I then put my iCloud info and got my contacts back. I have used the phone all day starting ten hours ago. I listened to Internet radio for two hours and used the Internet the phone and txt messaging. I am at 38%. I did not put the phone down. I am going to erase all the info off my MacBook. Give it a try. Will work.

My iphone 4 with iOS 5.x update is at 92 percent battery after 10 hours and 30 minutes of usage and standby. I watched videos on CNet, used Safari, several apps, and checked the settings, etc. during that time. At this rate, I expect to get about 130 hours of usage and standby per charge. Plus that much more from my Mophie battery case. So, I get several weeks before needing to recharge. Of course, heavy usage with less standby will drain the battery faster, but still, I am very content with my iPhone 4 battery time with the latest iOS5.x update.

My battery did not drain very much on standby, because I turned off the screen without fully shutting off the device (which is standby mode). I also closed all the apps that had been running in the background. I also have all notifications off, and I leave iAds and time zone shut off. Everything is off in iCloud except Find My iPhone. I let my battery run down and fully recharge it once a month. Most of my location services are set to on.

I also own a Iphone 4S the battery life was great until I did the upgrade I also have a 3GS I did not update that phone yet I am going to wait until they come up with a fix!

I was able to talk with a Apple service tech and they said they are aware of the problem about worse battery life with the new update and hopefully they will have a fix next week.

I never had problems with my battery life until I updated my phone last night! I always charge it before I go to bed and use it throughout the day with no problems. After I updated my phone last night I took it off the charger after a complete charge as always and the battery was already more than half way drained when I woke up and I had to charge it again. I hade to charge it twice more today! This is not functionable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And not only that, but there have been syncing problems as well. This is the most disappointing experience I've had after spending so much money. I used to think highly of apple and I'm having huge second thoughts. I'm still in my thirty day period so I'm probably going to return it. My husband has a Samsung and it's really nice! And no problems!!!!!
