After upgrading to 5.0.1 my iPhone is draining the battery even faster! Anyone else seeing this problem?

Brand new iPhone. Updated my phone to the iOS 5.0.1 and my battery ***** balls. Siri also doesn't seem to understand me like she did prior to the update. Very upset and probably returning my phone. My charge was at 100% at 2pm. The phone has basically been on standby ever since with the exception of a few text messages. It's 6 hours later and my battery is at 33%. I'm a hunter who is in the woods a lot. God forbid an emergency ever arrising because I know I won't be able to rely on my iPhone to make any calls due to a DEAD BATTERY. Steve Jobs would be ****** ******.

There is a story on a well known tech site that has an interesting reader response. He found that one third of the 45 negative reader posts about iPhone's battery after the latest iOS5.x update were actually written by Android fans who had said in older posts that they would never own an iPhone.

I was wondering about this yesterday. I suspected that this is what is happening in many posts: Android users pretending to own iPhones and then bashing iPhone battery life. What is ironic is that most of these trolls probably only get 4 hours of battery life from their Android phones.

Yes, some iPhone users are having problems, primarily because they leave apps open and their screen turned on when they aren't using their iPhone and then think that their iPhone is on standby; they don't know that standby really is engaged when the screen is shut off.

Wilderness...you are wrong. I love my mac and my ipad2. Love, love. But this iphone thing has been a fiasco since the beginning. I talked with one of the top tech guys for FIVE HOURS on the phone a few weeks ago trying to debug some known syncing issues which were introduced in the IOS5 rollout. My battery life was fine before I did the 5.1 update today. Now it's terrible! I threaten to go to Android out of shear frustration. i don't have time for all this. It should work without these crazy issues. It's going back. I'm done.

Maybe a tiny fraction of iPhone users have something wrong with their iPhone, or they have a setting problem, or they don't understand how to engage standby properly when they aren't using their iPhone. Who knows. But I have the latest iOS 5.x update on my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 and I'm not having any battery issues at all. I have 88 percent battery life left on my iPhone 4 right now after 12 hours. I am getting more than 100 hours of battery life per charge on my iPhone 4.

Wilderness, you are so wrong!! I have been an iPhone user for 3 years and have never had problems with my battery until this last update. I have turned off notifications (shouldn't have to do), turned off location services (shouldn't have to do), deactivated iCloud (shouldn't have to do), and I have closed open apps (didn't have to do before the update) and my battery life is still not near as good as before.

Here's what I've done, and I am getting more than 100 hours of battery time on my iPhone 4 after installing the latest iOS 5.x update:

My battery did not drain very much on standby, because I turned off the screen without fully shutting off the device (which is standby mode). I also closed all the apps that had been running in the background. I also have all notifications off, and I leave iAds and time zone shut off. Everything is off in iCloud except Find My iPhone. I let my battery run down and fully recharge it once a month. Most of my location services are set to on for apps that need it (maps, hiking, augmented reality, Yelp). I leave location services turned off on Safari and other apps that don't need it. I have push and fetch all off.

I also have a Mophie battery case that gives me another 100+ hours of battery time.

Well unfortunately your wrong on my part. I did replace a Droid 2 with an iPhone 4S, but my wife has had an iPhone 4 since it was released. I also own two iPads, an iMac and a MacBook Pro, so I'm definitely not a Droid person bashing Apple. As you can see, I'm a fan of Apple products because the are generally high quality and reliable. The 4S has a problem as demonstrated by the number of people experiencing battery issues. One shouldn't have to turn of location services, notifications, deactivate iCloud and turn off other basic functions so the battery might retain enough charge to last a workday.

Ditto to Wilderness being wrong. I have been a Mac user for years, iPhone for almost 4 years and iPad for almost since it was introduced.

iOS 5 and / or iCloud have seriously degraded the battery life - particularly on my iPad.

I have ALL apps closed on the iPad except email and just reading the emails in this thread for about a minute or two drained 3%. writing this reply - another 3%. That is crazy.

I used to end the day, with the iPad on all day, with 70 or 80% charge. I never had to recharge before lights out. Now, by evening I have to recharge because I am down to 5%.

i really resent being told to turn off location services, close all apps, etc. etc. I should be able to use the device as intended.

And, because of all the complaints, i have not installed the update.

Hi guys, I'm from Singapore and I've updated my iPhone 4 black 16GB to ios 5.0.1 via OTA. After updating to the iOS 5.0.1, I did a full cycle recharge in the afternoon. My battery life seems to have improved. I have my location services all turned off except for cell network search since I have no use for the others too.

Time since last full charge

Usage 6 hours 15 mins

Standby 19 hours 38 mins

Current time in Singapore: 10:52AM

Current phone battery percentage: 37%

Just got my 4s this week, and updated to 5.0.1. I don't have enough history to say whether things are worse since the upgrade, but would like to know how my experience compares to others.

I just started recharging after exactly 36 hours since last charge. I had 4% showing on the battery meter. During the 36 hours I used the 4s about 4 1/2 hours for a mix of voice, directions, browsing and music. iCloud was never active. It did seem like the % dropped faster when there was more charge showing. The percent actually seemed to drop slower over the last 8 hours, but I realize that is perception and may not be correct.

Has anyone recorded the time from full to discharge? How does my 36 hours with 4 1/2 hours of use compare?

We travel and need a phone that can go more than 36 hours without charging, so we cancelled plans to upgrade my Wife's phone to an iPhone. Her basic phone goes several days with fairly heavy voice and text use. My request for an iPad 2 for Christmas was also withdrawn due to concerns about battery life. I expected it to get heavy use and won't be much use attached to a charger.

I have an iPhone 4S with 5.0.1... Battery life is MUCH worse with this version, and honestly, I didn't really have a huge problem with the 5.0 version. I don't know what to do. It went from 80% to 28% in 3.5 half hours without almost touching the phone.

I hope this gets fixed ASAP because I can't really use my phone anymore. I am also a developer, and I can say that my battery was better with the beta 2 of 5.0.1...

This is very frusturating!
