I took my iPhone 4 to a holistic practitioner who fixed all my battery problems with a mixture of prune juice and sweat from under Steve's arms!
Worked like a charm -
Had the iPhone 3GS, then the 4, and now the 4S. Never really had a battery drain issue - not even on the 4S - UNTIL this morning when I upgraded to 5.01 - just like everyone else on this thread.
This has to be NUTS on Apples behalf - not quite sure why they released a supposed fix that makes things worse.
Anyway, am sure they are noticing the problem, and will come up with a real fix real soon (please!!!)

A fix is coming. Apple wouldn't let this thing get that much publicity. Apple has 65,000 employees. Do you think the problem has just skipped those 65,000 people and no one knows?
Finally a sensible person.
Apple should be rounding up these phones to see what is going on in them. And maybe they should halt the download/update unless they are pretty sure it fixes more devices than it breaks.

Finally someone who knows how to copy and paste.
p.s. Apple will not remove this update when it fixes so many other issues
Well I downloaded 5.0.1 yesturday evening and have already had to charge my battery 3 times. I hadn't heard about any of the problems until I checked the forums an hour ago to find out why my phone was suddenly losing 87% battery charge in a little over 5hours. On this kind of battery life its almost not worth having a phone. Very frustrating and a huge inconvenience. An update with a "REAL FIX" sooner rather than later would be nice

They only need to rebase 5.0 with security improvements etc. or create 5.0.0.1 for that specific purpose...
$ git rebase --onto 5.0 5.0.1leftovers 5.0.1securityetc
Something like that maybe lolll Better yet, as I was inspired by you guys' discussions on 5.0.2. Simply rebase security to 5.0 and distribute it under the name 5.0.2 as a full release obviously 🙂 So that would undo 5.0.1 while implementing security stuff!!!
Think different.

Again, where have you been told that a fix is coming? And that soon?
I don't remember the site, but the statement came directly from Apple. Did you actually bother to Google search it?
Very much so. Apple have said they're continuting to look into the issue. That's very different from saying a fix is on the way, and that it will be released in a week.
I really hope a fix does come in a week, but posting that you know one is definitely coming with no basis for it, is only likely to confuse the issue for many people.
I did in fact see a statement from Apple announcing the release of 5.0.2 in a week or two. I would try to find the site again, if I thought I actually needed your approval.
I was on the phone to Apple support for over 2hrs yesterday.
After 15 mins I was transferred to another section (i was talking on the landline and during this time my 4S dropped 5% with no aps running).
Basically the response was that Apple admit that there is a problem and that they do not know what is causing it or how to fix it yet.
They asked me to assist by providing data files from my phone, iTunes and via a diagnostic program I had to download.
After all that I was asked to restore and set up as a new phone and then run it with no apps for a few days before reporting any differences.
Fully charged overnight, my iPhone opperating without apps is now more like a Nokia but I will give it a go to see what happens.
My wife is having the same problem on her 4s, but I am not. I tried restoring and everything that has been suggested, but no luck. I did notice during this that her phone won't stay off if unplugged. When it is turned off it turns itself on about 3 seconds later. If it is plugged in it can be turned off, but not if unplugged. Could this have something to do with the battery problem?
Good observation. I would definitely report this to Apple.
Tried to, but couldn't get past first tech who just suggested restoring. He didn't seem to be aware of the battery problem.
I can't speak for anyone else, but my battery issue seems have been fixed by first applying the 5.0.1 update, and then doing a complete backup/restore. This not only fixed my battery problems, it also seems to have fixed my mysterious 3G data drain.
