5.0.1 update--even worse battery life

After upgrading to 5.0.1 my iPhone is draining the battery even faster! Anyone else seeing this problem?

I think 5.0.1 fixed the mysterious drain whilst on Standby... but I don't remember general use being such a killer. I used TuneIn Radio today for 15 minutes and it drained my battery 18%!! My 3yr old original 3G iPhone could stream that app all day long with no issue!

At that rate my brand new iPhone 4s couldn't do much more than an hour and half ?!? This is ridiculous!

It took Apple over a year to come up with the 4s, not the iPhone 5. A cross breed between 2 products they already had on the market and couldn't even put a couple of months into properly testing it??? What were you afraid some ******* was going to leave it in a bar?? Come on Apple. Pull up your game!

I'm sad. I want my confidence in Apple products back 😟

I've got an iPhone 4 and noticed a significant degradation of battery life after the 5.0.1 update (watching the percentage number get smaller and smaller in a very short period of time).

Last night I followed the advice of davidch as recommended here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3484755?start=0&tstart=0 -- first I did a reset through the Reset All Settings (under Settings/General). Then I went through the default setup as Set Up New Phone. I had to reconnect to Wifi, reset alarms, etc, but did NOT lose any apps or game settings.

I then let the battery drain to empty (to the point where the screen goes blank and the phone shuts itself off), then recharged overnight to 100%.

So far today (phone has been operating for four hours -- I've been checking emails, looking at web pages and such) I'm seeing much, much better battery life. Fingers crossed.

As a last resort since my phone would not even last half a day on full charge with no apps running in standby, i did what this post sugguested. Reseting the phone, drain the battery and then full charge... The phone is now able to survive the night and have 44% remaining. (10pm 100% full charge...5am 44%.) The phone was rebooted while at 100% and then put on my nightstand for the night.

Nowhere where it should be, but at least it is a small improvement for now. Here is to hoping for a fix soon as traveling this holiday is really going to suck.

Add me to the list of battery drain people. My iphone 4 ios 5.0.1 drained 20% within 7 hours while in standby last nignt. I checked on it after about 3 hours and it had only gone down 1%, so most of the drain happened within a 4 hour period starting at 12am eastern time. I have been noticing this trend for the past few nights. I like ios 5 but it is not worth it if I keep using up precious charge cycles. I wish Apple had a Genius Bar within 200 miles of me.

Ps. I find it odd that our battery drain problems are so varied. Mine is only draining 20% in 7 hours, sounds like some of you would drain all the way in that amount of time.

Using iOS 5.0 on my iPhone4 the battery life was 20% less than before the iOS 5.0

But now with 5.0.1 my iPhone is getting hot, even when I dont use it - what makes me think that something is really wrong !

The battery life with 5.0.1 becomes bad! Very bad!!!! I keep a Samsung mobile (that I got from my telecom operator (for free)) in my bag, just in case my iPhone runs out of battery.

After 5 hours (low usage, like email, or browsing) the battery drops from 100% to 40% (The normal battery drain would be (with iOS 5.0) is about 70% or 80% and using a previous iOS5.0 would be 90% to 95%)

What is going on with Apple ?? The iPhone4S was a disaster since people were waiting for iPhone 5, now this issue this the iOS ??

Hi all newbie on this forum. I upgraded to OS5 and got the dreaded battery drain. After aday I searched the net . One thing I did was to drain my battery down , actually until my iphone4 shut off. I plugged it in waited 5 minutes and opened my Battery Pro Docter app. Did a full cycle charge. Turned off all non essntials for me. and my battery has been great. I go to 2 1/2 days before charge.(Full) cycle. Im talking battery 10%, email phone calls text internet. Fast foward. Upgraded to OS5.0.1 and battery not an issue. Also reset network. My auto time zone is on.

When I go to bed I put my iphone4 on airplane mode.

@Depressed101,

My O2 signal got worst since I switched from Sony Ericcson to iphone 4s. Last night I upgraded to ios 5.0.1 and it has been constantly Searching for signal and when it got it, it is only 1 or 2 bars of reception. I turned on Aeroplane mode overnight and battery was ok. But when I switched off Aeroplane mode, the battery drained much faster than ios 5.0. So Apple, pls do soething about it. I am not able to make receive calls and losing my battery life.

I've actually noticed the same thing. I switched phones from a 4 to a 4S (the 4 had iOS 5.0, the 4S has iOS 5.0.1) and now in the same location where the phone showed 1-2 bars I have zero reception. And, when it's hunting for a signal the phone gets hot and runs down my battery 10% an hour.

I had rather good battery life with iOS 5.0 but I too am experiencing a noticable difference in battery life since I've updated to 5.0.1 First time I am actually disappointed with an apple product. I don't think I should be experiencing 15-20% drain in battery from no activity/20 minutes worth of listening to music. Hopefully there is a fix soon. (maybe throw in a free membership to the iTunes Match too 😉)
