How to stop itunes opening automatically?

I was downloading audio's for a class and iTunes was launching each one and driving me bonkers. I saw this on an Austrailan forum and it fixed my issue.

Open Preferences in Safari. In the General tab, turn of "Open Safe files after uploading".

Now I can download the MP3s for my class and iTunes stays off. This affects PDFs too. I hope this helps!

Removing the check mark from against the item in the list won't stop it running at login, it'll just stop it being visible when it does start at login.

You need to remove the itunes item from the list by selecting it and clicking the " - " button under the list.

Are you having the issue when you connect a device via USB? Like when you connect your iPhone?

If that's when it's happening all you have to do is go into iTunes. Click on the device that's currently connected. Go to the Summary Tab and UNCHECK the box that says open iTunes when this device is connected.

Will fix that.

Sounds like you've got a different issue though...

If you’re trying to prevent it from opening up automatically when you plug in an I-Device all you have to do is go into MSCONFIG on a computer, unclick anything with Apple, ITunes etc under the startup tab and then reboot and it should not automatically come on or sync without you manually opening it.

Driving me bonkers also! Downloaded 7 or 8 mp3 files and iTunes opened each time the download was complete.

Looked in iTunes preferences but didn't find a way to disable. My frontal Lob jumps into action and whispers in my ear.....Search Google for a solution to this problem. and seconds later I see your post. Thanks for the help.

Go to System prefs>Users & Groups>My Account>Login Items - check to be sure that iTunes is not launching on login.

To make sure it is not launching, you have to highlight the item, then click the minus sign at the bottom.

This doesn't work. Its still opening!

Even force quitting it won't close the program, its still in the doc. I don't use itunes at all, I use songbird.

yes thats what I meant when I said I did that. It no longer appears on the list, but yet sitll opens on reboot.

login items

remove iTunes by selecting it and then selecting the minus sign

This works - selecting "hide' iTunes on startup does not work
