iPhone 4S is loosing connection with Carrier after iOS5 update

Hello,

I've yesterday update iOS 5.0.1. I did it directly in phone without iTunes.

Today I've recognized a issue - my iPhone is loosing connection with Carrier.

I bought phone directly from Apple and using it in T-Mobile Czech republic network.

The status bar show only Search... or No Service

I'm in area where others have good signal including 3G. Also my iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4S before upgrade works well.

I have to switch off the phone (5sec. push of sleep button) and start again to find Carrier.

The switch to Plane mode and back doesn't work.

Manual choice of carrier doesn't work even I can see and choice T-Mobile - still no service

I need to revert iOS update to be able to use my phone. Please help me with this.

Thanks

Best Regards

Jirka

I only have an iphone 4, but have been having the same issues as those with a 4S. will this work? I honestly have no idea what to do with my phone as this has been going on since a few weeks after ios5 was relseased and my telco believes i need to send it away for a warranty repair, when in reality they cant do anything as it is a software issue.

ohh yes, on the Apple support page explaining 9A406, it says this update is only for iPhone 4S.

So, it's normal, if you can't get it with your iPhone 4. They might provide it only for iPhone4S s.

You are totally right. It took Apple 2 months to accept this bug and bring a solution. I was really frustrated during these 2 months because all the guys at Apple store and the telephone support people pretended as if they were hearing such problems from a very few people and the best solution they provide was to swap the devices which did not help at all. Now, they have come with a solution but apparently it does not work for all iPhone 4s owners. There are still bunch of people suffering from this stupid bug.

This device is supposed to be a mobile phone and Apple has sold hundreds of millions of mobile phones. It is totally unbelievabl and unacceptable that they are failing at the simplest feature of iPhone 4s. (Battery is another topic I dont undersand how they can fail. Don't they test these devices before launch? It must be easy to realize such an issue while testing in advance, but they again failed.)

It is even more interesting that you have the same problems with iPhone 4 and Apple does not acknowledge it at all. Unbelievable, their after-2-month solution only comes for 4s. I am afraid, it might take another 2 months until they acknowledge the same problem for iPhone 4 and fix it.

You are right 😟 it is very frustrating indeed how Apple handles this issue which I think is bigger issue than the battery drain as you cannot use an iPhone as a phone at all.

In my case the restore process to 9A406 did not help - frankly I believe its even whorse than version 9A405.

  • I tried to change the SIM to a different one - but my provider here in Czech (Telefonica O2) doesn't have 128kb (at least they keep telling me). Changing SIMs as well takes the pain that you need always visit a bank in order to pair it with a banking account
  • Did restore rather twice - with full settings clean-up
  • Nothing really helped - people can't call me, send me messages unless I restart the phone and than you never know for how long it will work again 😟 Every morning I wake up and see on my phone display message Invalid SIM or No service.

... and I am scared to go through the buying/replacing exercise again because I did get my phone in Spain where I need to return it but with no promise that the issue will be fixed ...

Thus - dear Apple - at this moment this is a major fail done to customers that did believe in your beautiful Apple logo because of your simplicity and easy use, at least I am a one 😟

I'm from India and I just got a iPhone 4S (16gb with 5.0.1)which is giving me the same network coonectivity problem. As someone had mentioned in the earlier posts, my Model starts with MD2.... I dont think its the problem with the SIM or the carrier/service provider as i have another 4S (again in the same MD2.... series) and there is no network problem with that at all. I m going to try the new 5.0.1 tweaked version tom. the first thing I wake up and see. If not, taking it to iStore and asking for a replacement. Will let you guys how it goes after the tweaked version.

Rash - Did you solve the problem, if so how? I'm on Vodafone and the same SIM worked fine on the other 4S I purchased like 10 days ago. Please let me know.

Thanks.

Dear all,

(THIS CONCERNS MTC TOUCH CUSTOMERS IN LEBANON)

I've received an email with a solution to the problem; you have to update to the new iOS 5.0.1 firmware (9A406)!! It's been 1Hour and so far my iPHone 4S is working just fine. Please follow carefully the below instructions:

RUN A FULL BACK UP BEFORE DOING ANY OF THIS

1. Download the new iOS 5.0.1 firmware (9A406) from the internet. (800MB)2. Connect your iPhone 4S to iTunes.
3. Once connected, two options will show: ‘restore’ and ‘check for update’.
4. Press down SHIFT and choose ‘check for update’. (if you click ‘check for update’ without pressing down SHIFT doesn’t work.)
5. Select the new firmware (9A406). Note that the file should be renamed ‘iPhone4,1_5.0.1_9A406_Restore.ipsw’ (instead of ‘iPhone4,1_5.0.1_9A406_Restore.zip’), i.e. changing the file extension from ZIP to IPSW. iTunes will now work alone and update your iPhone 4S.
A full back up is recommended before firmware upgrade.

HOPE THIS HELPS
