iPhone 4S is loosing connection with Carrier after iOS5 update

Hello,

I've yesterday update iOS 5.0.1. I did it directly in phone without iTunes.

Today I've recognized a issue - my iPhone is loosing connection with Carrier.

I bought phone directly from Apple and using it in T-Mobile Czech republic network.

The status bar show only Search... or No Service

I'm in area where others have good signal including 3G. Also my iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4S before upgrade works well.

I have to switch off the phone (5sec. push of sleep button) and start again to find Carrier.

The switch to Plane mode and back doesn't work.

Manual choice of carrier doesn't work even I can see and choice T-Mobile - still no service

I need to revert iOS update to be able to use my phone. Please help me with this.

Thanks

Best Regards

Jirka

Same problem in Costa Rica using a FU iPhone 4S. After restore to iOS 5.0.1 everything works fine until I get the SIM failure message. After that the iPhone start losing the signal and get stuck on searching. Trying several times to place a call makes the iPhone to get signal again... for a while. Then everything repeats again.

I am starting to believe that must be an issue on how the iPhone manage "low signal" places and fail to swith to Edge. Also, could be that the process that manages the double antenna was messed up on the iOS 5.0.1 update. Also, by the post here looks like the issue is more usual on Factory unlocked 4S... could be that the local network is part of the problem?

I am very frustrated, specially since I have the same problem as Luis, there is not Apple Store in Costa Rica!

Hi again I solve my problem the same like your phones, I went to my carrier and change my SIM. and thats all But the support man tell me find something strange because he can't activate the iPhone with the new SIM but, i have 3 hours with the new SIM and no problem, try it I wish have success because its a shame Apple didnt explore all the consecuences and have the tests for this problem, and they don't know the problem exist.

good luck everyone!!

Hi guys,

Rash here again. I had a similar issue and had posted about it on page one of this thread. Now here is the reason for the problem:

The iPhone 4S is unable to 'send / forward' the Caller ID on some service providers after the 5.0.1 install. So everytime you see full strength and try to make a call, the Caller ID blockage is making your service provide barr the call / text / gprs request.

I'm glad that the sim card replacement worked for Carlos, but for me even a replaced sim did not help. If fact, in India, I tried different 8 sim cards (cell numbers) from the same service provider (!dea) and none of them worked. Ironically though, all the other service providers' sim cars worked without any problem (Vodafone, Airtel, Docomo etc.).

My quick fix here has been that I have applied for a change of service provider while retaining the same phone number since Vodafone was also offering me a better package. I don't know how helpful this fix is for you guys. All said and done, Apple should fix this ASAP.

According to the Czech T-Mobile, this issue affected more than 20 carriers worldwide. They are working with Apple on the solution.

It seems the reason is wrong SIM card. They identify group of SIM cards with such issue.

The recommendation is to contact carrier and change SIM card, but be carrefull it must NOT be from the same series.

Hopefully they will have an update to this case tommorow morning, when Cupertino guys wake up.

Same problem here:

- Prague, Czech Republic

- Carrier: T-Mobile

- 4S, upgraded to 5.0.1

- Tried (and failed to fix using):

+ reinserting SIM card

+ turning sim pin off

+ changing SIM card (to a new one from T-Mobile)

My local T-Mobile store tells me I'm the fifth guy asking about the very same issue (invalid sim) today.

So it's a major problem. And getting a new sim card DOES NOT HELP. My old one was more than 2 yeard old, so I doubt I got one from the same evil series than doesn't cause any problems with any other phones but the iPhone 4S. It's a software issue and there's no other way to get rid of it other than getting Apple to fix the **** thing.
