Time zone purple arrow always active iOS 5.0.1

Is this happening for every one? The time zone location service is ALWAYS active in 5.0.1 in both my 4S and my iPad 2.

I'm also noticing this after the update. In 5.0 my iPad 1 had the purple arrow always on, no matter what, and my iPhone 4S was normal (arrow just once in a while, briefly). Now, after the update, both have the arrow on for really really really long periods of time. However, at least on the iPad, there's a difference: whereas before the update, this was clearly running down the battery quickly, after the update, it doesn't seem to be affecting the battery much. (I read for quite a while with the arrow on and battery at 99%, which would not have happened before, when I could practically watch it tick down without blinking)

On both devices, the arrow *does* eventually turn off, but it takes a long long time to decide to do so. (Maybe an hour, even) It's annoying that whereas the iPhone had been acting "normally" before the update and it was a big problem on the iPad, now both devices are stuck with this semi-problem. Fixing the broken one would have been better than half-fixing the broken one and half-breaking the OK one!

I was having a similar issue on 5.0.1 on my Verizon CDMA iPhone 4, turned out the culprit (in terms of most frequently using location) was Smule's Magic Piano app. Very chatty app, constantly showing a badge, difficult to turn off badging and notifications from the app completely. Uninstalled it, problem solved.

The problem described here is definitely the automatically setting time zone feature, not some third party app. It's possible to tell that because in the system location services, you get a list of all system processes that are authorized to use location services, along with an indication of recently used (gray arrow) and currently in use (purple arrow) services. In this case, the auto time zone feature turns purple the moment the status bar icon comes on, and remains purple until you turn it off.

Settings -> Location services -> System Services, turn "Setting Time Zone" to off. Unless you are meandering back and forth across time zones all the time, there really is no point in having this on at all.

If you have Settings -> General -> Date and time set to Automatically, then your phone still gets the time zone information as it is encoded in the time and data signal it gets from the cellular towers it connects to. The setting in location services is only of value if you are not connected to any cell towers and want to use GPS location to determine time zone. Otherwise, it's pointless.

Anyone knows if this is getting fixed any time soon? I actually am meandering back and forth across time zones constantly due to the nature of my work. And the cellurar signal doesn't allways set the correct time. Also if in Date&Time Auto time zone is enabled it not only uses info from cellular signal but from wifi connection as well as gps, if in location settings you disable time zone than auto time zone in date&time only uses wifi and cellular but no gps

Also does this constant time zone location thing have an effect on the battery life?
