iPhone 4S 5.0.1 Update Improves Battery w/ Settings Reset

After installing the update make sure you reset all setttings. I have done a few updates now and have had much better sucess after settings reset all. Standby drain has been virtually eliminated from 2-4% hr before update. It is located in settings/reset//reset all settings. You loose some wifi and desktop settings, but data, apps, etc remain intact.

The battery of my friend's 4S hardly got below 75% after a whole day of heavy usage. Hope I can get that result someday.

My 4S would be at like 40% to 50% after a day of almost no usage. Every method I can imagine has been tried multiple times, and got no difference. Not even a bit.

Perhaps I should count myself lucky, as those frequent resetting, restoring and recharging are not making my battery worse :-(

I'm wondering if the reported battery life by Davidch is with only making calls, and other than that it's just in standby mode?

Does this mean no wifi, games, or other use at all? I am finding that after updating to 5.0.1 my battery life seems worse, so just wondering if I should fully charge and then just keep it in standby mode other than for calls.

Also, if for example, I do a full charge to 100%, leave it for 8hrs in standby mode, and have 96% left. Is that a good indication that I do not have a battery life problem, or could I still have the issue but just not in standby mode?

Thanks

Dear david,

Do i need to fully discharge my iphone 4s before i do the re-setting etc?

I have updated my phone to Ios 5.01 few days ago, but it doesn't seems working on my phone to solve the battery drain issue, so i would like to try your method,

so basically is just go setting there and reset everything, then go location service and turn off the IAd and time zone, then use the phone until the battery drain off then fully charged it then done?

because after i try to reset everything besides "fully discharge and charged" , after resetting it, the battery still drain quite fast as in, i only using my whatsapp, and the battery drop from 64% to 60% in 10mins =(

So what I've been noticing is that my iPhone's battery is fine on Wi-Fi. It's just a lot worse on 3G.I understand that the Usage of the phone is a lot better on Wi-Fi than 3G, but I don't think it should effect my Standby drain as much as it does on mine. When I'm on the 3G the whole day, the Standby drain is much greater than if I was on Wi-Fi the whole day.

Ok I don't think my 4s's battery life has been all that bad my stats as of now are 59% battery, 2hrs 5 mins of usage and 1day 11hours of standby. I haven't tried resetting settings yet I am going for a before and after thing and I'll let you guys know my results. But my iPad 1's battery life has definitely dropped since updating to 5.0.1 I'll test on that also. I have iAds and time zone locations off and on my 4s I have siri's raise to speak feature off because I noticed that the proximity sensor was constantly running (I checked it with my old 3gs's camera) and noticed that even after turning raise to speak off the proximity sensor was still constantly on but a reboot fixed that. That's another thing you guys can try and see if battery life improves. Anyways I'll report back probably tomorrow or the next day to show my results.

I'm so confused. How are you guys getting 2-3 days? Is it a trick? I mean I get 4hr usage and 18hour stand by the end of the day but no where near you guys. Is there any way to check which battery our phones have and compare? Maybe ask apple or something. I'm so confused here that I'm thinking of doing a replacement. Also I've done over 15 full discharge since the reset. Help.

ram,

2-3 days would be stretching it or requiring very little usage, imho. however, 1-2 is very reasonable depending on usage levels. i am currently on day 2, but have not really used it much yesterday. i have 73%, 1.5 hrs usage, and 1 day 3 hrs standby. My goal with all my iPhones has been to get 1 solid day since I typically charge overnight. note, that very heavy usage would always drain alll my iPhones (i.e. 5+ hours heavy usage) in much less than a day (even my 2G original).

note too that usage is always very difficult to put an exact figure on since it varies so much on the exact type (i.e. which websites w/ heavy ads, javascript, youtube, texting, emails with images, creating videos, taking pictures and apps have all sorts of variables). i think your ok, just try not to think about it too hard 🙂
