iPhone 4S 5.0.1 Update Improves Battery w/ Settings Reset

After installing the update make sure you reset all setttings. I have done a few updates now and have had much better sucess after settings reset all. Standby drain has been virtually eliminated from 2-4% hr before update. It is located in settings/reset//reset all settings. You loose some wifi and desktop settings, but data, apps, etc remain intact.

No, you do NOT want to do a restore. Carefully, read my post throughout the thread especially the first few. You want to "reset all settings" and setup "as new phone". All your apps, mail, and data will still be there as before. Re-adjust your screen brightness where you want, wallpaper, etc and I still recommend turning off general -> location -> system -> timezone (and iAd). Then use your phone until it is fully discharged and recharge it overnight

Thanks. Will it prompt me to set up as a new phone after I reset the Settings? I thought setting up as a new phone means to restore it.

yes... it will reboot and you will go through initial setup process like when you first get the phone (i.e. choose lang, setup wifi, enable location services, enable Siri, etc). toward the end you will have choice to "setup new phone", "restore from iCloud backup", or "restore from iTunes backup". choose "setup new phone". again, all you data, apps, mail, etc will still be there like before. it is a little confusing terminology, but hope that helps.

Can someone help me??

I did this last night plus a hard reset and was planning to test battery life today. Today I woke up and notice my contact list are not linking properly. In my text message lists some are numbers and some are names. When someone calls are texts there number only shows up in the call log or text lists. No name even though they're in my address book. It's same if i call or text.

Anyone having this issue after doing this?? Can you help?

Ok, I did it. Everything seems ok, however, in the Messages app, all my conacts are shown as numbers, not thier names, despite my Contacts staying the same.

are you on verizon? there is an issue specifically with verizon causing that issue, i think. i don't work with any verizon users, personally, so have not seen it. i thought i read that to fix it, you just need to disenable iCloud contacts (i.e. settings -> iCloud, turn of contacts, turn back on contacts), but again have had no experience with it myself.

Are you on verizon? check out my suggestion above. also i have heard if that does not work you can contact verizon and they will reset settings on their end to fix it. again, i have not seen this issue on any ATT phones yet.

I too had battery issues, could barely get through a full day without having to charge my phone. I tried the new firmware update, and followed the advice of others - after the installation I did a settings reset of the phone. That was yesterday at 1:00pm. I have not charged my phone since and the battery is at 47% with moderate use. So far the fix seems to be working for me.

you may need to dial *228 and reprogram for Verizon. After I did a reset all, I had to do the *228 since all my contact phone numbers did not have the area code recognized correctly. I found that fix in another discussion that I can't remember. I believe you answer with "1" to program when prompted. But wait a couple minutes to take affect. I had to wait maybe 2 or 3 minutes then all was ok.

Thanks that did it!! That's the same thing Verizon had recommended. They even did a reset on their side. So far everything is great again. I've been troubleshooting since 12pm and its now 4. Using the phone all this time doing reboots, talking to customer care downloaded a new game, played it for 18min and texting. My battery was at 100% when i started and its at 50% now. Not bad at all. Just going charge back up and test it tonight. Hope it helps.

I tried the reset settings and a restore on Thursday (the same day the update was released) as soon as I finished the update on my 4S. My battery life drains even faster now. I removed my email accounts and turned off location settings. My iPad 2 is the same w the iOS 5.0.1 I really don't know why. But seems like a bad update for me and a god update for others. I wonder how many others are having the same issue as I am..
