iPhone 4S 5.0.1 Update Improves Battery w/ Settings Reset

After installing the update make sure you reset all setttings. I have done a few updates now and have had much better sucess after settings reset all. Standby drain has been virtually eliminated from 2-4% hr before update. It is located in settings/reset//reset all settings. You loose some wifi and desktop settings, but data, apps, etc remain intact.

I did a restore and set it up as a new phone. I am now waiting for it to drain, but personally i think i am getting better battery life than before. here are my stats so far:

Usage: 2 hours 3 minutes

Standby: 12 hours 21 minutes

Battery is currently at 67%. I think that seems normal...anyone think otherwise?

I will let you know the end results once i get below 20%

Try allowing your battery completely out. To the point the shuts of on it's own, then give it a full recharge.

I did it last night and this morning my phone has been of the charger for 20 minutes at least and I'm just now at 99% on moderate use (facebook, twitter, safari). Hopefully it stays this way all day!

Okay, here's the bottom line before heading to bed and leaving to recharge overnight.

Battery remaining = 1%

Standby time = 2 days, 2 hours and 15 minutes

Usage time = 7 hours

All in all I'm pretty happy with that and see, to be getting what the specs say as far as usage goes.

I noticed that a 10 minute call today used 2%, that would equal about 500 minutes to use 100% which comes out at just over 8 hours - pretty much what apple say to expect.

Hope everyone else gets sorted.

sflomenb,

"resetting all settings" sets only the basic sytem level settings back to default. this includes desktop wall paper, network, screen brightness, etc. all your data, apps, mail and iCloud should remain the same and not be unaffected. after reboot and going through setup (re-choosing lang, wifi, enable location, etc) choose "setup new phone", NOT restore from iCloud or iTunes backup. also be sure to fully discharge and fully recharge battery.

Hi,

do you have an exchange email acount on your 4S?

I use an exchange for work on my ipad 2 and my 4s. After 5.0.1 my ipad2 drained in 8 hors to 62% which it never did before with same settings.

My wife has a 4s as well and she and I took our phones off the charger at the same time yesterday morning. After 5 hours and only 32 minutes usage on mine the battery was down to 48%. Hers was down to 92% and she had probably 15 apps running in the back including skype.

Since I already got my 4s replaced twice i really think it has something to do with settings, exchange or iCloud or I just happen to get a faulty battery 3 times....

No, you do NOT want to do a restore. Carefully, read my post throughout the thread especially the first few. You want to "reset all settings" and setup "as new phone". All your apps, mail, and data will still be there as before. Re-adjust your screen brightness where you want, wallpaper, etc and I still recommend turning off general -> location -> system -> timezone (and iAd). Then use your phone until it is fully discharged and recharge it overnight
