iPhone 4S 5.0.1 Update Improves Battery w/ Settings Reset

After installing the update make sure you reset all setttings. I have done a few updates now and have had much better sucess after settings reset all. Standby drain has been virtually eliminated from 2-4% hr before update. It is located in settings/reset//reset all settings. You loose some wifi and desktop settings, but data, apps, etc remain intact.

Hello. Really nice to see some advice that seems to work for many people.

I got my 4s for my birthday from my fiance, and was so bummed when the patch for ios5 did not improve my battery after e recharge cycle. I really really like apple, because of the great service they have provided me when i had ossues with not only one new macbook air three months ago, but two, and i got new ones till i had one working. After all this trouble i think i might be somewhat uncompatible with apple- products, but i keep hiving it a shot because of brilliant design and function( when working).

Anyways, i really dont see how a new phone will be the solution this time, so im looking for others. This really seems promissing, and i will try it if my attemt from last night with a hard reset of the phone (completely resetting to factory thru itunes) and a complete recharge cycle fails. Because those are two different thing right? So if this fails, there is still a possibility that it will work to do what you suggest?

I also have another question, before resetting have you guys also had the issue wih its usagetime beeing heavily exagurated? Mine has about 16 hours of standby and it has continously read pretty close to half of that time as in use, tho thats far from thw truth. I have shut of pretty much everything thats new and exciting wih thw phone, and those numbwrs seem pretty consistent.

Sorry for spelling errors and such, im new to writing on iphone and im not english either:p

High usage times have been reported in other forums. That has also been associated with the phone feeling hot to the touch. I think you should follow Davidch's steps in the exact order. Reset All Settings has to do with clearing out possible bad settings that may be causing the iphone to perform operations it does not have to. Also under location services, it was reported couple weeks back that the timezone being on was causing the iPhone to continually operate in the background. That is what 5.0.1 was to fix or at least everyone believes it should fix. Save the hard reset after you perform the battery drain/recharge.

Thanks Davidch, was looking around the web for the longest time before I found this. Basically after my update, I did a settings reset which put everything in default, so quite troublesome. I didn't get the option Set Up as New as well but the phone did ask for Siri, Location Settings etc. Then I let the battery fully deplete before recharging it fully overnight.

After 8 hours standby, 1 hour 42 minutes of usage I am at 79%. Which is a great improvement!

Thanks a bunch! Just don't like the feeling that I don't know what was actually wrong with my phone.

Battery Usage Standby

90% 41 min 1 h, 16 m

80% 1 h, 33 m 3 h, 9 m

70% 2h,34m 4h, 25m

60% 4h, 1m 6h, 43m

50% 5h, 2m 8h, 37m

40% 6h, 10m 11h, 22m

30% 6h, 48m 12h

20% 7h, 32m 13h, 16m

10% 8h, 47m 14h, 27m

Can anyone tell me if this info above is good or bad? I'm not an expert but I'm finding same battery drain as others are saying. I'm in the process of doin the reset and full cycle to see if it improves, but any comments on the info above would be helpful thanks!!

That's amazing battery! I wish mine would get close to that.

Your battery at 40% was the same as mine, but you used yours twice as much! Wow.
