iPad 2 battery goes down 1% every 4 minutes

It's gotten to the point where I'm really frustrated, never had this problem before so I'm guessing it's because of ios 5 but 5.0.1 still hasn't done anything. Surely every 4 minutes means that there's something wrong. I know for a fact it lasted way longer before, someone please help it just makes me so annoyed, is it possible that I've overcharged it?

You could try the following:

1. Let the battery run to zero, to the point where the iPad won't run at all. Then recahrge it fully, using the iPad charger (i.e. not an iPod or iPhone charger, which generate less current. That should recalibrate the battery percentage diaplsy, just in case that's the problem.

2. Do a restore. Ideally, restore as a new iPad, but make sure you have a full backup first (connect to iTunes, right-click the iPad and choose Back Up).

Apple has said there are still some battery issues in 5.0.1, and that there's workin going on to fix them

Yes, I do mean to 100%, to reset the indicator. The charging and restoring are addressing 2 different issues:

The charging is to recalibrate the internal calculator that powers the percentage display. This is the less likely problem, but it's sensible to clear it.

The restore is to ensure that any "rogue" process is cleared out. It gives you a clean system wit no possible crud left from the previous installation.

If you prefer, do the restore first - it's not important in which order they're done.

1% every 4 minutes is 15%/hour, i.e. about 6 hours. Unless there's a lot of continuous online/graphic activity, that does seem high to me.

8%/hour seems OK in normal usage - that's 12.5 hours, which is good. Unless it's 8%/hour with no activity, in which case it's a little high.

Of course, one person's excessive drain is another person's normal usage.

I never said "over" 4 minutes, if I was on YouTube or safari or any app, I've seen how it decreases every 4 mins, on standby it's longer but that's no use, I've left it on the same app without even using it just for an hour just to test it and its still the same, look I know for a fact there's a problem here with my iPad so if you're not going to help and just say there's nothing wrong please leave this thread

I say again, you cannot measure battery use over a 4 minute interval. Normal use gives 8-10 hours of battery, your getting 6-7 hours on your '4 minute' measure. If it was 1% over a 5 minute measure it would be 'normal'.

If you are that concerned, take it to an Apple store. There is no point in ranting any more here, as Nick has given you the only advice necessary here.

Look, no-one's blaming anyone for anything here.

The fact is that battery is not an issue for the huge majority of iPad users. It's just not an issue. Go back over 20 or 30 pages on this forum and see how many battery issues there have been. Apart from you and the OP, I haven't seen any.

I say again, there is nothing anyone can do here for the OP apart from from what has already been recommended.

If the battery maintenance steps don't work, then take it to an Apple store.

Take a deep breath. Count to ten. Ignore posts that you don't like.

There hasn't been a wide-scale battery porblem reported on the iPad - the big issue has been on the iPhone. There are occasional cases (yours might be one), but there's also been and awful lot of emotion around battery life.

Down the years, I've seen complainst about battery life after evyer single iOS update, and I've had iPhone and iPad since they came out. Most (not all) of the time, it's been people, dare I say it, obsessing a bit. That's probably why igmackenzie's pushing for a more "relaxed" approach.

My view is that 15% an hour is abnormally high. A restore will remove the possibility that it's a holdover issues. The discharge/recharge will eliminat the battery counter. If they don't work, there will be 3 possibilities ;left:

1. You have a hardware fault

2. You have a rougu app that you use a lot and taht has an issue with iOS5 (there are quite a few of these)

3. You are worrying over nothing.

After the restore/recharge, if the issue persists, we can look at these possibilities.

Clearly you just want me to think things are worse than they already are by suggesting I go to an Apple shop, a lot of people have had this problem with the new update and I just want to see what others WITH THE SAME PROBLEM, have done to make it last longer, I don't want to be patronized into thinking otherwise, so thanks for your help but it's not exactly working.
