iOS 5.0.1 Crashing iPhone 3GS

Hi, I own a iPhone 3GS 32 GB, and I just updated to iOS 5.0.1. For some reason, even if my iPhone is on sleep, it keeps rebooting every 2 minutes, regardless of what I am doing. It goes back to the apple logo, reboots, and shows the lock screen. After unlocking it, I can only use it for about 2 minutes everytime. Then the screen goes black. I don't know what's the problem, because iOS 5.0 was working perfectly fine before updating. I updated without connecting it to my computer over wifi. Does anyone else have this problem???

I have no problems but you may need to do a restore.

Hey Apple?! Why are you silent here?! You've got a monster problem with your user base. My iphone 3GS was awesome until I updated to iOS5. 5.01 hasn't helped at all. The phone is good for about 30 min., then goes dark. Have to plug to get it back, when I do, I'm told battery is 90%.

A lot of people are suffering with this bug. What's up with the silent treatment? Please weigh-in!!

I would like to say Thank You for your solution! It worked!....... I woke up this morning switched on the 3GS and it started rebooting every minute or so. ( this was the first time I switched the phone off since upgrading to 5.0.1) ...I was really worried there for an hour until I found your post and fix....GREAT WORK!!!

Hey Apple Support: Your silence is deafening!! Hello anybody there?

I took my phone to a shop regarding this problem of the iPhone 3gs running on 5.0.1 crashing randomly every minute or so, and the solution, as already mentioned from previous posts, was straightforward, but not simple. The tech guy reverted to iOS 4.x from iOS 5.1. and 'poof', problem gone! He did explained it's not easy to bypass the iTunes server to restore the previous OS, and it took almost half an hour of waiting just to get the job done.

Hi,

Having same problem as everyone here, really annoying!! I tried the solution of taking out the GSM card and activating 3G and so on but did not help, still restarting after 2 minutes. The thing is that, as of course we cannot just be without a handophone, when I took the GSM card to insert it in my spare (non-Apple) handphone, the iPhone stopped restarting. So now I have a perfectly useless working iPhone which is in fact not even a phone!!

Anyway, it seems to be clear that it has something to do with the phone card being inserted. But no solution posted here seems to help definitively.

It is ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE that this is being posted in the so-called "Apple Support" site and nobody from Apple is saying a word. It is so frustrating, my iPhone just became as useful as a piece of wood.

Hoping somebody can help, please!!

So, from what I understood, everyone with an iPhone 3Gs experiencing this issue should expect:

- iPhone keeps restarting randomly each 1 to 5 minutes;

- iPhone does not receive any text messages even if others can send them to you;

- iPhone does not receive any call but the caller listens it as if your iPhone was ringing;

- iPhone cannot make any call - if you try to do it won't show any calling screen but it will restart;

- If you turn your iPhone OTA on you won't experience any problems

Is it correct, or it just happens with me?

I am having a smilar issue. I have a 3GS with phone sercive and a data plan. mine is not rebooting every couple of minutes it's less often than that. Mine will reboot when I am in an app and try to touch on an incoming txt from the notification bar. I called apple out on it and did a restore. Currently monitoring the situation and kinda waiting for an incoming txt to happen while I am in a app. it is very annoying and I am glad I got the exxtended service on the phone when I bought it. Hopefully the restore worked and I will not have to worry about this again.

Iphone 3Gs - upgraded to 5.0.1 - terrible upgrade. Everything is slow, jerky, almost unusable at times. Texts get stuck, texts copy and burn into texting space, screen freezes and then only 1/2 coverts to next screen. HELP - please get the next upgrade out there. I went to the apple store who only suggested maybe restoring. This is NOT what an upgrade should be. I feel like I'm using a microsoft windows product. I will try a reboot restore again.

My progress so far:

For those just checking in, there's a significant bug with iOS5 running on the iphone 3GS. My in the 16gb. Ran great on iOS4, runs like **** since the upgrade. Screen goes dark when using apps, even when batter is fully charged. I've been waiting for Apple to help out. Glad I didn't hold my breath. Here's what I've tried so far.

1. Tried that neat little trick from mohammadfromabudhabi -- it seemed to help some people, but not me.

1: Restored from the with most recent settings: no improvement. Screen went dark right away. I've learned using something like "maps," (although pretty much ANY app would do it) pushes is to "go dark."

2: Restored to factory settings. Seemed to help longer. Without any apps, there was nothing to force the crash. Wound up crashing it with full battery power while downloading an app from the app store. So, no good either.

SO. Time to give up on iOS5. Next step: try to figure out how to downgrade to iOS4. iTunes won't be any help here. I'll keep you posted.
