You won't loose, your data. Make sure you make a back up before restore. Don't restore the back up just Sync all your data from your computer itunes. All your music and app, will be sync to your phone. I did this and I din't loose anything, I can't guarantee that you wouldn't loose any data but at least it works for me. I have all my music and apps on myphone and the annoying red dot gone for ever. If you find out that you loose any data you can restore your back up any time, but the red icon from **** will show again. Hope this help

Mechies post isn't correct either. My software is already up to date. (iOS 5.0.1) I have performed a hard reset by erasing all content and settings and let it sync with Itunes again to get all my data back but the annoying red 1 always returns to the "settings" icon.

Isn't there someone out there with an answer???

Is it only Sprint 4S phones doing this?

I went to apple via phone and instore and the only solution they had was to restore the phone. However, I was a little nervous to do that and decided to leave it till the next update. Well last week they had a new update and from everyones posts and information I noticed that alot of people did the last update via wifi. So I decided to plug the phone in and do it threw the computer. Well after the new update was completed my little red badge is gone, so no need to restore before you try this.
