Ok. The iTunes version in the applications version is 10.5.1 and its 184.7mb. I tried to double click it to launch it and it shows up for one second on the tool bar at the bottom and then dissappears and I cant get it back. So the iTunes in my toolbar now is the old version and it is dominant. Why can't I get the new version thats sitting in the applications folder to launch? Will I lose all my itunes stuff if I try to delete the version on the hard drive?

No, you will not loose your iTunes Library by deleting the iTunes Application. I am only concerned that you might not be able to use your music, if you delete your working iTunes Apllication and are not able to launch the new one. You could try to backup (copy to an external drive so that you can restore if need be) the old iTunes, then delete it from your hard drive and then launch the new one. To find out why it will not launch we would need an error log. Before you launch iTunes the next time, activate the Console window, if you have not done so. The Console Application is in Applications/Utilities. Then post any error messages or warnings that you find in the console window when you launch the new iTunes.

Before I could even do what you asked, I restarted the computer. First of all, at least 4 applications are launching at Start up -- Excel, iTunes, Console, and something else. That seems weird. Then the Console had the following errors -- just at Restart:

Good morning Jodi,

this different time zone are very disruptive to a conversation. I wish somebody would join us who also lives in the "Golden State" and could give you a quicker response.

Have a look at the System Preferences -> Users&Accounts. Check if iTunes is added to your Start Up items. If it s, remove it.

Also, when you log off or shut down, uncheck the "reopen windows" button.

The error messages you posted do not all seem to be critical:

Some refer to problems resuming apps, like console, because there are no safed states.

11/24/11 2:06:06.713 PM com.apple.mtmd: malformed base path in GetVolumeEntry

this seem to be more serious, something should be mounted, but the base path is wrong.

It looks like you have some old entries in your system caches and your mac would run more reliable if you cleaned the System caches with Onyx or Spring Cleaning or sp https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2452030?answerId=11634177022#11634177022

I have to be off to work now
