Join two clips to make one new clip in timeline
Can I join two clips or a clip and a slug in the timeline and create a new clip without exporting and importing?

Eh?
If you don't import anything, there's nothing to work with.
Nick,
I think he means selecting the two clips in the timeline and exporting them as a quicktime movie and re importing.

Why would you do that?
Beats me
I took a look at your other thread on this and, if I understand correctly, it appears you want to insert slugs in between songs in a multi cam music video with 3 cameras.
I don't know any way to do what you're trying to do other than export the sequence and then re-import as a clip to make your multi clip. If you want to speed that process up somewhat, export the sequences as reference movies.
Perhaps Nick or David will have a better idea.
Russ
If they do they are unwilling to share.
Because I want to make a new clip!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don't understand why this question is so difficult. Please, no more "oh you're so stupid" answers. Either help me or not.
Harri,
If I had an answer I would share it with you. Didn't see your other post, it's better if you don't double post with the same question it can confuse things. Wish I could help, someone else may have an answer for you, be patient, the guys on here are not on 24/7. Good luck.

I read through this thread rather quickly, so I may be missing somethign -- but wouldn't "nesting" work?
Well, join them in the sequence, and you can use that sequence as a clip. Drag it into the Viewer...viola! It's a clip!
David,
Thank you for your reply. Yes, sorry for the double post, but I am a bit frustrated with some the "attitude" I'm facing here. I thought maybe my question was too complicated and simplifying it might help. It seems to have aggravated the powers that be.
While I am not a pro FCP user, I have been involved with film/video production since 1974. I did my first video production on a reel to reel porta-pak! The one thing I am not is stupid and I don't appreciate anything that implies that.
I realize my project is a little out of the ordinary but I inherited it "as is". That's why I need the help. (Straight forward shooting and editing is not a problem for me).
Yes, I have taken a deep breath and counted to ten. I will await any responses.........patiently.
Harri
No, tried it.
Ann, the eventual goal is to make a multiclip from the newly created clips and FCP will not make a multiclip from a nested sequence.
Cannot make a multiclip out of anything other than ACTUAL clips. Meaning single video files. So that means that you cannot do this without exporting new QT files.
You say "join them in the sequence". How? This is my original question.
