Join two clips to make one new clip in timeline

Can I join two clips or a clip and a slug in the timeline and create a new clip without exporting and importing?

MacBook Pro 2.4 GHZ, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Basic editing. Put one clip on the timeline....then the other clip right next to it. Like you edit a clip after a clip.

Then export a self contained QT file. Reimport that. That's your new master.

HOORAY!!!!!!! finally, an answer! Shane, you are awesome. Not sure why this took so long.

I suspected this but wasn't sure. I will now start a long process of exporting/importing my clips.

As Bugs Bunny once said, "Credit is due where credit is due." I think the OP shoud mark David Mclaine and Russ H's responses as helpfull too since they suggested the export/re-import idea early on.
