iphone 4 upgraded to ios 5.0.1, call reception problems...

Hi all,

After having updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.0.1, my phone now seems to have the following problems:

It doesn't receive calls - using a landline and calling my iPhone results in the landline just ringing and ringing;

The iPhone can make outgoing calls but, once the call is terminated (i.e. i press the "end call" button), the "phone" app sits there forever - previously the phone app would disappear once i press the "end call" button.

I can't send sms messages - after hitting the "send" button, the progress bar showing the transmission status moves about 80% to completion and then stays there for good.

This has all happened in the past day or so. My iPhone 4 has been running without any problems for well over a year with various older ios versions, as well as about 1 week on ios 5.0.

It seems that the updated to 5.0.1 has caused these problems though I do note that these problems didn't occur immediately. I was using my iPhone with 5.0.1 quite happily for around a day (making and receving calls) before encontering my current problems.

Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers,

TC

I'm having similar problems. I'm using TIM in Italy, all my software is up to date (OSX 10.7.2 etc...) and still a complete disaster with the phone. I've reinstalled / restored / everything I can think of / been told to do and nothing is working.

Why is it that everything worked fine with iOS 5 and then when there was an update I now have a very expensive iPod?

I can't even find a way to downgrade the software... I can't get in touch with Apple as none of the online support systems seem to be working.

I really hope that the next update will fix this as it's the only time I'm a becoming a hater for Apple.

As per previous posts, try turning on the cellular data connection (with 3G enabled). This should not help in theory, but worked to fix the problems for myself and JoeyGS after which you can switch it off again if you like. Not sure if you need the 3G enabled to fix the problem, but that is what we did. Certainly the cellular data needs to be switched on for some unknown reason after the software update.

Becoming a "hater" of any description sounds bad for your health 🙂 Would not recommend it!

Ha ha... certainly being a little melodramatic

However, the problem is that my cell phone literally stops taking or making calls, the network comes in and out, I don't get data, it looses the GSM connection... the phone literally stops working as a phone. Interestingly This wasn't the case with O2 in the UK. Although I haven't heard anything about GSM provider specific issues, it is a possibility.

Basically, I haven't been able to use my phone since I upgraded to iOS 5.01

I'm hoping that Apple does something about this... and soon. Either that or TIM will have to sort out their micro SIMs. Thanks for the reply though.

Hi Phil and Jasper,

Another step that needs to be done which have reverted back my Iphone in working condition is to clear all cookies and data and history at the Safari settings. Likewise, you also need to reset the Cellular Data settings. But on resetting the Cellular Data Settings, you need to go back and input your coustomised setting (like turning on/of APN, etc). Also, the saved settings on your wifi will be deleted so when you connect to the wifi you just have to re-enter your passwords, etc.

Thanks to one of the users here that he provided the above instruction. Also, I think this is the step need to bring back your Iphones with iOS 5.0.1 into working conditions.

Well....it worked for us.....try it....hope it also works for you.

Regards,

Joey

I've got similar problems with 1-year old iPhone 4, which I recently upgraded to 5.0.1. I had decent 3G connection in New York with AT&T and in Moscow, in international roaming - both with 3G voice and data. But once I dropped of the plane in Ukraine, I can only connect to UMTS (3G) voice with one carrier who serves this, but no 3G data. When I turn 3G off in the iPhone Settings, it doesn't connect to the carrier at all (keep searching with No Service messages at top bar).

I've sepnt already 4 days with AT&T international roaming support team, they put me through all kind of troubleshooting excersizes, and finalley opened trouble tickets, which is still not being reviewed.

Getting no help from AT&T and Apple. They create tricky bugs to keep us busy.

Extactly the same problem. Just not sure why this is happening. I was on 5.0.1 for a good amount of time until suddenly this started happening. This is happenig to every iPhone 4 in my office.

I want to know is apple silently pushing updates to people? This is would be intruding. Please post a quick fix to this problem. The phone renders useless if the call functionality is stopped.
