iphone 4 upgraded to ios 5.0.1, call reception problems...

Hi all,

After having updated my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.0.1, my phone now seems to have the following problems:

It doesn't receive calls - using a landline and calling my iPhone results in the landline just ringing and ringing;

The iPhone can make outgoing calls but, once the call is terminated (i.e. i press the "end call" button), the "phone" app sits there forever - previously the phone app would disappear once i press the "end call" button.

I can't send sms messages - after hitting the "send" button, the progress bar showing the transmission status moves about 80% to completion and then stays there for good.

This has all happened in the past day or so. My iPhone 4 has been running without any problems for well over a year with various older ios versions, as well as about 1 week on ios 5.0.

It seems that the updated to 5.0.1 has caused these problems though I do note that these problems didn't occur immediately. I was using my iPhone with 5.0.1 quite happily for around a day (making and receving calls) before encontering my current problems.

'k... attempting to update it via itunes - though this is for the 1st time (my previous upgrade to ios 5.0.1 was done wirelessly). will let you know how it goes... fingers crossed.

matter, one more time to update to 5.0.1! it is likely to be solved are missing

matter with itunes or wireless, that does not matter!

hrm... not sure how to upgrade it to ios 5.0.1 again. I've now sync'd my iPhone with iTunes but iTunes notes that everything is "up to date".

Do you suggest I restore the iPhone and then attempt to upgrade it again to ios 5.0.1?

2. open itunes,Click in iTunes while holding down the Shift key (on Windows) or Alt key (Mac) to restore and firmware

Sigh... this doesn't work.

My iPhone now can't even make outgoing calls. Will hunker down and hope that iOS 5.0.2 fixes things... along with looking for a cheap feature phone so I can make calls.

Not being able to make celular calls and send/receive sms's is really painful.

I have had horrendous reception problems too - sms not being sent, phone calls being cut off, not connecting to internet when tethered and even internet on the phone too slow to use. Apple, please fix this ASAP!

Same problem for me in South Africa. After the 5.0.1 update, my iphone 4 can no longer receive calls (does not ring), make calls (rings but dead when other person picks up), end calls (gets stuck terminating call after attempting to make a call as in previous point) or send text messages. Hmmm.....not good!

Hopefully Apple reads these posts. Anyone seen a fix yet that works (even some way to revert to firmware prior to 5.0.1)?

Aha! Suddenly the phone seems to be working again after turning on the 3G data connection (I had previously only connected to the internet via wireless connection after the IOS 5.0.1 upgrade).

On turning off the wireless and turning on cellular data connection, the phone suddenly received a few SMS messages and things seem back to normal. Can only think that the upgrade required some sort of initialization step over the cellular data network. How odd!

Can now make and receive calls and send and receive text messages, even when the cellular data connection is off again i.e. things seem back to normal.

Nope. This happened to me also. What soleved it is to turn on or Enable 3G and set Cellular Data to ON. While this worked to solve the problem. Apple still need to correct the bug for 5.0.1 because there should be no problem even if the 3G and Cellular Data is turned OFF.
