Can't copy/paste artwork

I am running iTunes 10.5.1 and running into not neccasarily an issue as much as it is an annoyance. I've been using iTunes for years, so I'm not new at this by any means. All I want to do is to copy artwork from an album that I already have artwork for and paste it to a song that doesn't have artwork. I'll give the perfect example:

I have loaded a mixtape of a friend of mines songs into iTunes. He doesn't have it in iTunes, and doesn't have artwork, so I had to upload some album artwork myself (Picky like that). Today I realized that I had missed one of the songs from that album. So I went to do like I always do, go to one song from the album that has the artwork I put on it, Right-click the artwork that shows up on the bottom left hand side of iTunes, select "Copy", then select the song that I missed that doesn't have the artwork, Right-click the blank area where the artwork should be, and select paste. Voila, it should be done. Simple as that. That's how I've always been able to solve those situations.

However, now I cannot do this. No matter what song I go to, I can right-click on the album art all I want and nothing happens. No popup that says "Copy" appears anymore. I uninstalled iTunes completely (was on the 10.5.1 beta 2 with iTunes Match) and installed the full version of 10.5.1, got the same results. Thought it might have been something I caused, so I went to a friends mac and got him to try the same thing (right-click album artwork and select copy) but he couldn't right click the artwork either. Apple Support told me that this function should still be available, is anyone else running into this issue?

Please keep in mind, that I'm not trying to get album artwork from iTunes Store. I'm just trying to copy artwork that I manually loaded into iTunes myself and cannot do so. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I ran into exactly the same problem immediately after updating iTunes to 10.5.1. It's infuriating because this is a simple and highly useful function that I used all the time. For example, if you imported a couple tracks from a CD six months ago, located and added artwork, and now decide to import the remaing tracks from the same CD, you need to be able to COPY exactly the same artwork to the newly imported tracks with no additional hassle.

I have been unable to find a good workaround. Right clicking on existing artwork - either in the lower left corner playback window or in the Get Info > Artwork Tab - simply no longer invokes the Copy/Paste function. Nor can you select existing artwork, then click Edit > Copy from the menu bar, because the Edit > Copy function is disabled.

I just hope this is a bug that gets fixed, and not an intentional part of the Lion era strategy to eliminate useful functionality and reduce Mac user productivity.

If you ues Get Info>Artwork, click on the image and do command-C, the image is copied to the clipbpard and can be used again in something like Photoshop.

Once the image is highlighted, you can also drag it to the desktop and it will place a copy there, just like dregging it there from the artwork pane in the lower left of iTunes.

Way too much work for something that used to be so easy.

I went into the get info of a song I wanted to use the artwork from, I went to the album artwork selected the image and pressed command+c I then went into the info of the song I wanted to update the artwork for and pressed command+v. It worked. While I think its ridiculous that apple disabled this easy *** function of copying and pasting from the artwork area this is the resolution I've found for my music file OCD.

Yeah, this works. CmdC and CmdV (in the artwork area of each specific "Info" pane) works. Not sure why I didn't try that, and other folks have said similar things. The fact that you can actually, specifically select the artwork in the info of each song is probably what makes the cut and paste still work. They'd have to work extra hard (and intentionally so) to make that basic clipboard-style functionality stop working (crap, hope I;m not giving anyone in the Walled Garden ideas!)

Perhaps Apple is hiding anything overt (and apparently a right-click menu is such a thing), knowing "power users" will find other ways.

Thank you krvnj8 -- a calm, rational solution-finder is awesome in resolving these troubling First World problems. *smile* I'm going to go try to get some perspective now (after fixing my %^&$*# artwork! *grin*)

Thanks,

JoeK

Upgraded to 10.5.3 and tried dragging artwork into individual song files. Worked on some but can't get it to work on others. Tried dragging into Drag Artwork Here on Selected Item in lower left. It appeared for half a second then disappeared. Tried Get Info and dragging directly into Artwork Tab. Artwork displays as long as I have the file open in Get Info but disappears as soon as I click OK or as soon as I click Next or Previous. Using OS 10.6.8 Did not have problem in 10.5.2

As an update, the problem only seems to be with AIFF files. When I convert them to AAC, MP3, or MP4 I can import the artwork. Still seems funny that I can import artwork into some AIFF files but not into others. It doesn't appear to be a file size issue as some of the AIFF files that accept artwork are larger than files that do not.

Sounds like a lot of confusion

I find that in the get info > artwork window , regardless of whether or not other functions work, I have always been able to drag and drop artwork, either from the artwork window to my desktop, or from my desktop to the artwork get info window (no other functions needed). This should also work to attach art from a song that has it, to a song that doesn't - by dragging it from get info > artwork for the song that has it to the desk top, then selecting the other track and drag drop it to get info > artwork where it is missing.

drag and drop should work... if you add new art to where existing art has not been deleted in get info then you may see both (the new and the preexisting) side by side in the artwork window in get info, in that case iTunes will display the one that is first (reading left to right) and you simply drag the one you want shown to the left side of the get info artwork window. Also if in get info > artwork you want to delete what is there, select it first (a blue outline will show around the picture) then hit delete on the keyboard and it should delete every time. Then you can drag drop whatever art you want in that window.
