So many problems with iTunes Match...

So far my experience with iTunes Match has been horrible. I keep getting a ton of unmatched songs that absolutely should be matched, and lots of upload errors.

For example, the album "Houses of the Holy" by Led Zeppelin.... http://i.imgur.com/RscRg.png

After toying around with it for a while, i found that sometimes using iTunes to create an AAC version of a unmatched song, the newly created AAC version does get matched. Not sure why this is, as the original unmatched files are 320bit MP3s.

Another issue I've found is that albums are not sorting correctly on my iPhone with iTunes Match active. I use dougscripts in iTunes to copy the release year of all my albums into the "sort album" meta data field. So that way on my ipod or iphone albums are sorted chronologically. Through iTunes match, none of my albums are being sorted correctly. Its not even that they're sorted alphabetically instead of chronologically. They're just listen in what seems like a completely random order.

Yet another MAAAJJJOOORRR complaint is with the album art. I am very meticulous about my album art. Every album in my library has album art displayed. My first step in getting album art is trying to get album art through iTunes. Most of the time this works fine. For the ones that dont, I just search google images and copy and paste the album art in... What I'm finding though, is that all my albums with album art gotten through iTunes, is not showing up on my iPhone when using iTunes Match. But albums where I had to paste a image in to iTunes, those do show up on my iPhone. This is not 100% consistent, but pretty close.

Overall I am very disappointed with iTunes Match so far. The Apple philosophy of "it just works" certainly does not apply to this product.

Im going to wait it out another couple of days or a week or so, and if things don't get better, I'll be calling in asking for a refund.

A new irritating iTunes Match issue has popped up with the iTunes single of the week. I usually download these songs, listen to them, and then decide whether I'm going to keep them permanently in my iTunes library or not. After listening to the last two singles of the week, I decided I did not like them enough to keep them in my iTunes library, so I hit shift-delete to permanently delete them and I also made sure that they box was checked to "also delete them from the cloud." Unfortunately, they keep reappearing in my library from the cloud later on. I have probably deleted "The Unsinkable Fats Domino" from Guided By Voices 6 to 8 times, only to see it reappear in my iTunes library a day later. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. Just joined yesterday, and 24 hours later, everything is uploaded and running fine. That includes uploading over 7,000 songs that couldn't be matched, most being vinyl, cassette and 1/4" obscurities ripped to 24/96, then redbook, then Apple Lossless. Only 64 songs out of over 16,000 were "ineligible", due to being ancient 64kbps rips. Converted them to ACC, and 5 minutes later they were uploaded. No problems with artwork. I don't use smart playlists, so no idea. I do have over 200 playlists that uploaded fine. No probs so far, but I obviously haven't tried them all. 2.5GHz core i5 iMac, iPhone 4 and Mini, all running fine. Then again, I never use 3rd party apps for iTunes, and I don't expect it to be something it is not.

Most of the problems I read about seem to be coming from 3rd party apps and spotty internet connections. As to the complaints about upload times - you do realize upload speeds are usually painfully slow compared to download? Run a speed test and see. I'm fortunate to have a good cable internet provider. Upload speeds are usually 3.5 - 4 Mb/s compared to 45 - 50 Mb/s download, using wifi. I ran a direct connection for uploading. If Match is restarting, you were probably booted off your connection temporarily. If you are running the cables your internet provider gave you, realize they are junk, and probably part of the problem. Go to monoprice and order some nice Cat6 straight cables, and see if that helps.

I'm sure it seems like it works now, it did for me at the start. First I tried on windows, but it never finished uploading after 2 weeks, and I have a very fast connection. Then I moved it over to my Mac and it uploaded everything in a couple hours. Looked on my iPhone and all my music showed up, I was thrilled. Then I started downloading my music and all the problems began. Albums just started to disappear from the list of available albums in iCloud. Albums that I was downloading only partially downloaded tracks, then when I went back to download the rest, which were there before, they weren't there anymore. On top of that a lot of the tracks that I did download disappeared too. Then I gave up and went back to syncing over the USB cable the old fashion way. Just a mess, can't believe Apple would release such horrible software. I don't care about the money, I wasted weeks trying to get this running and this is a feature that's really needed on the iPhone. I feel like they should outsource all their online development, it's shocking that they are still having problems after all these years, especially after what happened with MobileMe and the things Steve said about it at WWDC, that they were serious this time and that everything would "just work". They're gonna get lapped on this one if they don't act fast.

It went ok for me too (thought i don't have as much as some people here). However I think that, being a huge fan, Apple missed the point. the idea of having the music in the cloud is to listen to it abroad, when there is wifi connection. AND to listen to it "normally" from the iphone list, like on the ipod before !

Nothing else.

I do no want to go to a curio shop to buy a walkman !

Besides there was no clear indication of what would happen to the previous list.

oh ! a last thing, there is no secure wifi all over the cities those days...

What complete rubbish iTunes Match is. Very disappointed.

Like MobileMe, and iCloud, this is just utter crap. Apple should stick to just producing great hardware and leave cloud services to the people that know how to do it.

Out of ~20000 mainstream artist songs ripped from legally bought CDs, it only matched 3000 or so, and it took more than a whole day. Then I tried to delete from the cloud, they just won't delete. I turn of and on Match and the deleted music and playlists just reappear.

Accessing iTunes Match music from Apple TV is testing my patience - it takes for ever to find. What's the point? I might as well pop in a CD as it takes a fraction of the time. This product is a disaster.

Well, I'm now asking for a refund and will consider it again when they fix it, but I'm not holding my breath.

Yes, this is very frustrating. I also try to delete music matched and uploaded, by deleting from my Library and ticking the 'Delete from iCloud box', but they will reappear soon after. Some will go away after several attempts, some just keep re-appearing.

This product is useless.

im a bit confused as to how apple can match some of my tracks but not find album artwork for it.

on songs i havent purchased, with no album artwork, apple matches the song but there is still no artwork. it's only a little detail but i thought the late steve called up a google exec on a sunday over the shade of colour of a G icon on the iphone. please sort it.

+1 for the Smart Playlist horror caused by iTunes Match but the reason why I've cancelled is the treatment of ineligible tracks by iTunes Match.

I had a number of ineligible tracks - some low bandwidth music rips from 10+ years ago and music video tracks I've ripped from DVD. Now I didn't expect iTunes Match to match these, or upload videos, but current functionality doesn't even allow you to sync these ineligible tracks locally from your computer to iPhone. So with iTunes Match on, you can't listen or watch to ineligible tracks, at all. Now there is a way around this - you can try re-ripping the tracks at a higher bandwidth and change the videos from music videos to spoken word, or movies, but I really couldn't be bothered.

I did get a refund from Apple. Initially they refused. I then provided relevant "fit for purpose" sections of UK consumer law and pointed out that iTunes Match broke existing functionality that wasn't mentioned in their terms.

iTunes Match has all the hallmarks of still being a beta service and I'm sure Apple will address the bugs eventually but I don't see it being compelling enough to suffer with the issues while they do address them.

Same issues, tunesmatch was working pretty well over christmas, but in last week nothing updates. its useless now, as neither the iphone or ipad can now get playlists. all I have is a blank white screen where before there were hundreds of playlists. i've also noticed the albums come through but all the album art that was previously there has also now dissapeared.

I have rebooted, logged in an out and tried every workaround i can find online but still nothing. Not sure why I am paying for a subscription that does not work. I get the sense as other countries come online with this program the crush of data is bogging those already subscribing down. Refunds or extensions of year long subscriptions should be offered as clearly what you pay for is not even available.

25 bucks for something this buggy is criminal.
