iPhone 4s low earphone volume problem

anyone else having this issue? my earphone volume often would lower itself by about half the volume I set to, and doesnt revert back to the original level, it seems it happens most often when I receives a notification when I got the earphone plugged in. I checked the volume lock, still shows that it's on max, and the volume adjustment buttons shows it did not change.

I had tried unplug and replug the earphone, also tried rebooting the phone, does seems to restore the volume.

The volume sometimes restores itself if I receives a notification, or launch a game, or enlarge a web page via safari... but the chances to restore the volume is still pretty low.

This is happening for me on iOS 5 and iOS 5.01, affecting both music and vidoes, doesnt affect notification or games.

NOT HAPPY 😟

Mine did the same today iPhone 4s with the latest iOS 5.1 . The headphone volume was set at max and suddenly only gave about 50% output !!. Didn't matter what I did the volume would not get any louder. After I connected to Siri it went back to normal ??. There must be a bug but it has not been sorted out in the first update.

I think I found what is the problem, first if you use another app with audio like soundcloud the sound is louder than the music app, so music app has a problem with audio, second Siri, it seems that Siri has a diferent level of volume that the audio of the device, so when you activate Siri turn volume up or down and then close Siri, and the audio reestablish to a better level, I hope this work for everyone and sorry for my english...

This problem just keeps getting annoying every coming day. As I roam around outdoors in noisy environments, I'm barely able to hear what's playing on my earphones. So I decided to do a little test of my own. I dug out my old 3GS from my drawer and also borrowed a friends 4 and did a comparison of the three phone with the same song.

Heres the audio output comparison:

1. 3gs 100%

2. 4 75% relative to 3gs

3. 4s 50% relative to 3gs

3gs was the best sounding model among the three, also the loudest. Almost immediately I was so angered by the situation and was just about to dump my new iphone 4s and go back to 3gs but then decided to spare it because it was bought on my own hard earned money, would've thrown it away for sure if it was a gift from someone.

The next day I decided to hit the service center again with all the 3 models just to prove my point. The apple guy took out his 4s and loaded the same song on it and gave my iphone 4s and his a heads on comparison on sound output. What happened next was stupid, both the phone had the same audio level, both running on 5.1.

He said apple has deliberately lowered the earphone output on this firmware because of safety concerns whilist people are outdoors. I just had one thing to say. Why?

I have had the same issue. I decided to get a cotton bud and put a tiny amount of rubbing alcohol on it. I cleaned the earpiece, being careful to not let it get too wet. I actually held the phone with the earpiece facing down while cleaning it. I then used a hairdryer to slowly dry it on the cool setting. I then used a tiny pin to scrape what appeared to be "gunk" in the earpiece. Ten minutes later I tried the phone by calling someone. I was scared it would be even worse. I was literally almost deafened by the megaphone going off in my ear. I literally had to turn the volume down. I tried all the other fixes. This worked like a charm for me. Give it a try. Just be careful not to let any of the alcohol get down into the earpiece.
