iOS 5.1 severe problems to connect to a mobile phone network

My iPhone stopped working as a phone.

Can't make/send or receive calls and text messages after updating to iOS 5.1.

It's like the phone function of the iPhone has been disabled.

When I check my settings it appears that it is connected to my local service provider. In the top left hand corner of the screen I only get one connectivitiy bar.

No matter where I am.

What can I do? How can I fix this or do I have to wait untill the guys at Apple Inc. come up with iOS 5.2?

I would not bother. I'm Baaack.

I got my iPhone 4 replaced under the apple care wty, set it up as a brand new phone and has been working for about 2 weeks but I have noticed the issue returning again. REMEMBER, this is a completely new iPhone 4 replacement, SAME fault. Nothing will fix this until APPLE get their **** together and admit and fix the bug is iOS 5.0 and 5.0.1.

I have booked another Genius appointment for tomorrow where I will get the phone replaced once again but this time, I am going to make sure they leave the replacement on 4.3.5 as I had the choice of last time it was replace but decided to give it a go with a new phone rather than DFU restores and the like. Now that this process has failed, the next step is to go back to 4.3.5 via another new replacement iPhone 4 under Applecare Wty and leave this one on 4.3.5. Unfortunately not everyone is able to do this as their iPhone 4 will be out of Wty and I feel for those people because no matter what you try, you will never get rid of it until Apple fix it.

GOOD LUCK everyone, and I mean that!!!!

Finally!!!

For the past 1 month I did a lot of testing with my 4s phone and Sim Card.

My card works just fine with other iphone 4.

Other carrier's SIM card works fine with my iphone 4s. but searching took a while.

Then, last week I bought a new 4s for my Wife, with factory software version iOS 5.0.1.

My card works just fine in her phone.

I came to conclude that it is my iPhone 4s or its software and not China Mobile connection/Sim Card.

So, I called Apple helpline, share my testing and observation over the past 1 months. The Apple Cust. Serv ( I think he is based in US though I was calling HK Apple) also confirm there is something with my phone or the software.

The Apple CS assist me to make an immediate Genius Appoinment in IFC Apple.

Check in and go thorugh the same discussion with the IFC support guy.

They replace me with a new iPhone!!!

Everything works ok now and connection/signal is solid, even stronger than 3 or smartone.

Now I can conclude that iPhone is the best phone in the World!!!!

So, I suggest you test your SIM card with other 4s phone.

I believe it was the glitch and software error in the 1st batch of 4s phone release.

Dont wait for iOS 5.0.2, just go to the APPLE shop and get it fix or replace!!!!!!!! "Delay No More"!!!!!

I have 2 iphone 4s 's in my household "apple unlocked"both using Rogers network...Since the upgrade to 5.0.1 , Iphone turned to an "IPOD" for us...

"No Service" is now part of our daily life... I tried sooooo many things to get the phone to the level prior upgrading to IOS 5.0.1, none of the above WORKED.

FOR ROGERS NETWORK ... NOTHING WORKS... IT IS RIDICULOUS AND BEYOND FRUSTRATING !!!

APPLE ADMIN SHOULD WAKE UP AND RESPOND THIS ISSUE...

I've updated my iPhone 4S to IOS 5.1 (9B179) but now i Can't make/send or receive calls and text messages. It show me "No service" message while the 3G is active.

When i disable 3G, my phone show full conectivity to my carrier but it won't connect. Only Edge works.

I tried to Reset network Settings (Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings) and this didn't work!!

I'm from Chile and my carrier is Claro.

I am also having problems since upgrading to iOS 5.1. It shows that I am connected to AT&T, but all attempted calls result in 'Call Failed' message.

Sometimes the new 4G / old 3G symbol is missing. I cannot receive calls or send texts. Sometimes there are no bars at all and it simply says 'searching' until I reboot the phone.

Hopefully we can get a fix for this soon.

I am having similar problems. Upgraded my iPhone 4 (not 4s) to 5.1 yesterday (March 14th, 2012) and now I can only access the internet while connected to wifi.

I seem to be able to make calls without any problems but when I'm out I don't seem to be sending or receiving any 3g or edge data.

Anybody know how to fix this? Or am I also going tomorrow to AT&T to find out if they can do anything?
