    It's an 8 GB silver 6th generation

Thank you Apple but the response was extremely poor as was the communication.

So I got mine two days ago, and then discovered... I can't use it. My OS doesn't support the required version of iTunes (OS X 10.4.11). I've gone through all the e-mails about the replacement program, and looked at the paper I got with this 6th gen, but can't figure out where to report this... I'm on a 2006 macbook that I hope to replace within the next year if possible, so I don't want to buy an upgrade to my OS now... and this was supposed to be a free replacement, but if I need to pay to use it, it really isn't

Sadly this situation has arisen for quite a few people. This may, naturally, be indicative of the people that were continuing to use older Apple technology such as the original nano iPod in concert with their older computers and operating systems. Many people invested quite a lot of hard earned money in older technology which was compatable with the original nano.  Sad too that corporate Apple appear unresponsive to such individual issues. There is a similar problem regarding their impending move to iCloud computing. Excellent that Apple replaced the old nano with a brand new one anyhow. Apple seem to mean well even if the result is somewhat less than palatable to everyone concerned.

My solution was to purchase a second hand iPod video (5th generation) for spprox the same cost as a second hand new nano. The old 5G iPod video with its greater capacity and ability to play movies is a superb replacement and is compatable with my other gear. My Apple Hi-Fi loves it. :p

Nano 6th gen, I just opened mine.  I had already upgraded to a Nano 6th gen. so now I have 2.  I don't see why there are so many complaints.  They didn't send refurbished nanos, they covered shipping and for me it was painless.  They stood by their product and many big corporations don't do that anymore.  I'm happy.

This isn't really directed at you specifically (yours just happened to be the last relevant response), but is regarding ALL of the responses confirming that people have received a silver, 6th gen, 8Gb nano. Yes, that is what EVERYONE is getting.  This is not news.  It is also really not necessary for everyone to post all the details of the timing of their individual replacement process.  Yes, we all now know there are delays and that some people are, inexplicably, getting faster service than others.  It really serves no purpose to keep posting this info. I would rather not turn off notifications entirely, but this is getting old.

Why you dont turn off the notifications first? I think you already got you new ipod but for those that domt i's imporyant. See ya!

Why is it important to see hundreds of  verifications that it will be a silver 6G  and to see specific dates that vary widely from one person to another?  Knowing that 22 people got it exactly 6 weeks after sending their original in, but that 31 people had to wait 8 weeks, and 13 people waited three months doesn't help anyone know how long it will take THEM to get THEIRS.

Yes, I already got the replacement for my original one,  it I purchased two refurbished units off of eBay so that I would still have a 1G unit and the first of those was also one of the ones with a potential bad battery so I sent it to Apple (and kept the third one), so I am waiting for the replacement on the second one.  It will come when it comes regardless of how long it took Joe Smith to get his (or even how long it took for me to get my first replacement).

If you know how I can turn off notifications just for this thread, though, THAT info would be great.
