How Do I Get Rid of iOS 5?

A few weeks ago I installed iOS 5 on both my (and my GF's) iPhone 3GS. Then I heard that Apple was releasing a special patch to correct the problem with the battery drain, so I eagerly updated both our phones. Now it seems we've gone from bad to worse.

We're just about ready to give up on iOS 5. We tried all the battery-saving tips and nothing works. How do we go back to iOS 4.0.3?

Thanks!

After restoring, the phone will sync with iTunes and reinstall all your iTunes store apps, music and media. If you've been syncing contacts with an app on your computer or cloud service, those will sync back as well, though you may have to re-setup the sync, connect to iCloud, etc..

You will lose all settings, email account setups, WiFi and BlueTooth connections, app data, SMS messages, visual voicemail, and Camera Roll photos. (You should import all cameral roll photos to your photos app on your computer before restoring - you can then sync them back to the phone later.)

Hey -

Thanks for the advice. The only thing I'm not sure about is getting the photos from the IP to the PC (yes, I use a PC since my iMac G4 does not support the new OS and iTunes. Ugh!) I think I should have my images saved to a folder on the PC though.

Thank you again for your help. I will try this fix in the next couple of days. In the meantime, have yourself a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

If they are photos you took (or saved) with the iPhone, move them to your PC as you would with any other digital camera. I just copy/paste them with Windows Explorer.

If they are photos you synced onto the iPhone via iTunes, they are already on your computer in the folder you specified when you setup the photo sync.

Hi, again:

I finally took the time to do a Restore as New iPhone to try to remedy the battery-consumption issue. The only thing is, I absentmindedly used the data that I had backed up prior to the restore; so of course the problem is persisting as I needed to do a clean install of my apps.

Just so I get it right, please let me know the procedure for restoring the iPhone without backing up my data.

Thanks again for your help.
