I burn many discs on iDVD and always do it the same way - I have found that a few of the discs are unable to be read on my player after burning. So some work fine and some cannot be read in the Player. I get the message "Unsupported Format" on my player. Any suggestions?
It's more than 1 disc that this has happened to and they are all brand new so I don't think that's the problem.
No, you want to test the non-working DVDs. Try copying the VIDEO_TS folder from the bad DVD to your hard drive. If you can't read the VIDEO_TS folder on the bad DVD, then it's probably bad DVD media.
Ok I'll try that. I understand what you are saying. Si you don't think it has anything to do with the setting in how I burned it - not that I ever change the settings...bad media can come from legit dvd's? Weird, no?
Well the DVD isn't damaged. Your DVD player could have a bug on reading certain DVDs. Damaged DVDs are really common, so eliminating that is important. I would try to use a different DVD player to read it.
If iDVD didn't have sound before you authored the DVD, you won't have sound after the DVD is created. Did you create a self contained Quicktime movie out of your editing system before importing into iDVD? Did the Quicktime file have sound in the Quicktime Player? Never trust any DVD encoding software to always work on all types of Quicktime Movies. It's a complicated format and unless you pre-encode your files correctly, you will have problems. Again, take a look at the article I wrote. This is how you avoid problems.
It could be a damaged DVD. Try copying the VIDEO_TS folder of the DVD to your hard drive. If the copy doesn't complete, your DVD is damaged.
I would test it anyways. Some DVD media brands have high failure rate. Also, check the DVD in a DVD player as well.
I have already copied the video–ts folder as I do with all the DVD 's I burn - this is only happeneing to the burned dvd's. Not the originals.

disc burned and was able to read in DVD Player. But now no audio! arrggghh!
Try to rip the DVD into Quicktime with the free trial version of DVDxDV and see if you get audio.
so don't burn it in quicktime, just rip it? how do i just rip it?
