Have same problem but on iPad 3 phone ok nothing seems to work!
Having the same problem, unable to connect to iTunes....
Having the same problem, changed the date, as suggested above, the 'Accessing iTunes Store' at the top just keeps trying to connect, but never does. Changed the date back to current, and iTunes tries to connect, but doesn't.
Apple is losing revenue big time with this software bug, you'd think they would address it immediately.
The date thing worked great!
I am having the same problem, and neither the date trick, nor the date trick with resetting autocorrect time & date solved the problem.
I have been on so many forums trying all these "tricks" (date change included) and nothing is working..I just keep seeing a pop up saying "cannot connect to Itunes Store"
I'm connected to wifi/can browse safari/have emails.

iTunes can’t verify the identity of the server “init.itunes.apple.com”.
After trying the date approach! Plus a bunch of other weird stuff started to happen with Safari.
This has been a problem since the last iTunes download.
Try this, it worked for me...
Changed my password again.
Signed in and out a few times (didn't get the error message any more but still couldn't access my account details)
Quit iTunes then reopen.
Sign out then in then I got asked to verify my account payment details, which I did by filling in the missing bits of the credit card info such as expiry date and security code number.
Voila...I'm in! Finally!!!
