Comment to the "Ancient system" can you use the store, can you update your iPod software or do anything at all fully? If so carry on using that, till Apple has the decency to actually let us know what is going on!

Yes I can use the store but the ipod update has no text in it. It appears to work but I can't tell what button I am clicking or whether it actually checked to ipod softwear. It did say that my ipod softwear is up to date.

Update from yesterday.............I thought that I had properly backed up my libraries and such when this first started but apparently I did not. Thinkng it was safe to delete the copied file I did so and lost my library. D'oh!!!! Thankfully all the music was still there but I did have to recreate all the playlists. AAAAGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! I am not a genius and this software requires a person to be a genius. VERY not happy with itunes right now.

Since I have NO choice but to use this softwear to run my ipod I will leave it as it is until such time as some genius softwear geek, NOT affiliated with Apple, creates a reasonable program to replace this one. Believe me, the day that happens I will run screaming from Apple

I sure hope that Apple has the decency to at least address the current issues everyone is having.

Dear Baad

Please, do not hold your breath. I am among the segment of the population that uses itunes on my Windows 7 64 bit PC, but no iproducts.

About a month ago, we got an upgrade to itunes, and since the, itunes crashes within about a minute of accessing the store. This means that Apple is losing sales of media on this afflicted population. They have done NOTHING to get us back on, even with our (former) itune money going to Amazon instead of them.

Since they already have your money for your ipod, I am afraid that you are just about as out of luck as we PC people.

With my condolences,

Bella

I have had this same problem for about 2 weeks now. I have a Windows XP laptop and since I updated to 10.5.1 I can not access the iTunes Store. It starts to load then halfway through stops. It is very frustrating because I have tried basically everything to get it to work and nothing seems to help. I have contacted the Apple Support to seem if they could help me with the problem but all I got was a link to an article that I had already tried that didn't work.

Thanks Bella,

I have used off brand MP3 players in the past and have been very happy with them in being able to use windows media player to service them. This Ipod was a gift which I am truly grateful for as it came with a docking station that I use as my "general" music station. I have a stereo system that I use to play Cd's, LP's, and Tapes. An MP3 player is far better than carrying around a bulky cd player but not if it is not useable for the "general" public.

I am not old nor am I young, I am computer literate to a degree but this software is far beyond an average users knowledge/ability and is not viable in monetary longevity. I look at all of the functions and services that this software has and wonder how much each of these functions cost to create and yet it is "free". Why is Apple pouring so much into a non-functioning, hated, unusable product? I would not pay to use their software just to service my MP3 player nor do I need all of the added and unnecessary functions it has, so I ask; why Apple?

It may be that I need to sell my Ipod and invest in a more accesable product that has real customer service and is easier to manipulate? Voting with my money is always a good choice. Maybe my next phone (if I {so unlikely} need to have a computer in my pocket {NOT!} )will be a droid instead of an Apple product.

I say vote with your money here kids. Sell your Apple products and buy something that is actually usable in the long run.

Thanks Bella

I was able to get a fix for my instance of Win 7 Pro SP1 with iTunes 10.5.1.42.

Problem: iTunes was crashing on startup during the status "accessing the iTunes store" when the status bar was about 50% complete. Windows indicated iTunes had a problem and had to close.

Solution: While iTunes was not running, I moved (not copy) the file "com.apple.iTunes.plist" to the Desktop (from Roaming/Apple Computer/Preferences).

Notes: The crashes with "Accessing the iTunes Store" have stopped. I saw this proposed solution in another post, but it did not fix the original poster's iTunes crashes, but it did work for me. Good luck.

Good news: My itunes is working again today

Bad news: I did so many installs/uninstalls, deleting of settings, downgrades/upgrades that I have no idea which one of them fixed it

Sorry guys, but I think the above one has something to do with it, my itunes no longer tries to access the store when I start it up and that seems get rid of the lock ups.

Good (???) news: I have heard from Apple support that they are "currently working toward a resolution for the issue you have reported. You will receive an email after the matter has been investigated and further information is available." So, at least they are working on it. I hope. 🙂 Will post again after I have heard from them.

Thank you very much!

Deleting

C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\Preferences\com.apple.iTunes.plist

also solved my iTunes Store Crash.

iTunes 10.5.1.42

Window 7 Enterprise 32 bit (no SP)

I believe this plist file got corrupted after I had killed iTunes during some long runnig program launch.

This is a very easy thing to try out, because this file will be rebuilt during the next launch of iTunes.
