Well, at least I learned (or remembered) two important lessons. 1. Don't sync your phone/ipod until you are sure iTunes is working, and 2., do a Windows system restore point before upgrading to the next iTunes.

I just installed 10.5.2, and the same error at the same point while trying to access the store. iTunes shuts down, and that's it.

I have tried uninstalling all parts of anything Apple (including checking out the registry), reinstalling iTunes innumerable times, and even tried installing a previous version of iTunes. (That's when I learned the problem with syncing your iPod..if your iPod is on 10.5.1 and your iTunes is earlier than that, you cannot sync your iPod) so I had to go right back to the 10.5.1. I've tried running as administrator, and I can't think of anything else to do. I watch eagerly for posts that have worked for others, but just haven't found the one for me.

NOTHING could make me want an Apple computer at this point. NOTHING.

Please Apple, I want iTunes store back!!!!

Are you running an accellerator Program? I had SpeedBit(free version) already installed on my computer and itunes/istore worked fine until I upgraded itunes. After installing upgrade, same problem as mentioned before--progress bar would freeze at 50% and I could not get into the itunes store. I finally uninstalled SpeedBit, and itunes worked fine.

That was about 2-3 weeks ago. Have been frustrated with slow videos on youtube, so today splurged and bought the "premium" version of "SpeedBit". Surprise, itunes store crashed again. Contacted "SpeedBit" support via email, the responded within 30 minutes (Take note, apple) and offerred an immediate full refund. They said they were aware of issues with itunes, and they were actively trying to come up with a solution.

Had a refund to my Paypal account immediately, uninstalled SpeedBit accellerator from my computer, and once again, itunes works!!!!!!!

Hope this helps someone else.

Windows fix: Started iTunes in "Safe Mode". This allowed iTunes to "update" my library.

Start iTunes in Safe Mode

Open iTunes in Safe Mode to isolate any interference with plug-ins or scripts not manufactured by Apple.

  1. Hold down the Shift and Control keys while opening iTunes. If performed correctly, you should see a dialog that says "iTunes is running in safe mode" before iTunes finishes starting up
  2. After clicking "Continue", determine whether the issue you were experiencing persists in Safe Mode.

I have the same problem, Itunes 10.5.3 shuts down while attempting to enter the Itunes store.

I open again Itunes, I click immediatley the music page to stop eccess to the store, then I run diagnostic checking only the Network box, after that all runs fine. But if I re-open Itunes another time the problem comes back until I have not run diagnostics again.

OK..up to iTunes 10.5.3.3. Still have the same issue.

"Run as administrator" allows iTunes to work.

So here is how to set iTunes to always run as administrator:

Computer> hard drive> Program Files (x86)> iTunes.

Right-click on "iTunes.exe" and select properties.

Click on the "Compatibility" tab, then the button at the bottom "Change settings for all users".

Then click the check box for "Run this program as an administrator".

Then OK, and OK again.

Note: each time you run iTunes or connect your iPad, iPhone or iPod to your computer and open iTunes, you will need to approve the User Access control to allow iTunes to run.

So iTunes and the iTunes Store work then. Also, so far with upgrade to iTunes, I have not had to set this again. My desktop shortcuts just work.

Maybe someday apple will figure this out.

I have corrected the issue completely and now do not have to "Run as administator".

Uninstall itunes, etc. as per Apple recommendations here:

Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923

Note: if using another operating system, please find your appropriate tech note article.

Then reboot.

Then download and install the current Quicktime FIRST!

Then download and install the current iTunes.

Everything works as it should now.

Good luck!

Hi all,

I have some of these issues :

1 - iTunes crash at 50% of loading iTunes store

2 - iTunes overloaded the proc is fail-safe mode

3 - iTunes don't close in fail-safe mode

I have a Win7 x64bits home edition.

I have deleted this file :

C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes\Cache.db

And iTunes works normally now BUT my iPad is not detected.

I'll made some further tests

Regards
