As far as I know, Excel files are not supported by iCloud. Only iWork files (Numbers is the spreadsheet app) are currently supported.
Sorry but only iwork can go on icloud. Hopefully on the next update they will change that. What u could do is convert it to numbers.
My mistake, it appears Excel files are supported: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2704
Are you uploading the file with the appropriate file extension? It's not showing any extension in your screen shots.
I have tried .xls, .xlsx, with no luck. I even created a .txt file and uploaded it to "pages" and got the same result.
Here's the scoop- I was having the same problem, but accidently found this solution: After you upload a document from your PC, the icon in iCloud changes from a thumbnail of your document to the one you see in your screen shot above. Here's the fix: You must now open the document in Pages (or Numbers, etc.) on an Apple device (iPad, iPhone, etc.) before you can download it to your PC again. You'll notice that after you open, then close your document on your iPad or iPhone, the icon will change back to a thumbnail of your document. Now you can download it onto your PC.
I would assume that you must have Pages, Numbers, etc. to open it on your iPad or iPhone for this to work.
Oh, and here's the solution from http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2704
"Important: You cannot download a document from icloud.com to your Mac or Windows computer until the document has been opened on an iOS device."
Best,
Matt
If you want to upload non iWork documents to iCloud from a mac and download them again to pages, this User Tip might help.
Can someone please tell me how to send an Excel file to iCloud. I've spent hours trying to find an answer to no avail. I often rue the day I bought this iMac because of the lack of help in answering questions. I am pleased to have found this discussion.
Also, why are there two Apple IDs? one is @me.com and the other is @internetserviceprovider.com. Haven't a clue which to use when. Thanks in advance for any tips.
Thanks, I'll give it a try.
I looked at your suggestion and went through the instructions and didn't read the very last line before I did all that. The last line of instructions says You cannot curently access this folder from an iPad, iPhone, iPod or iCloud.
Also, I ran across another instance, MobileMe, asking for my password. I entered my password that I use with my Apple ID and got a message saying the password is not correct. I've changed my password five times in the last few hours. Does this ever end? Thanks again for your help.
Sorry for ressurecting this old thread, but I've just now started looking into using iCloud Documents. I opened a locally saved Numbers spreadsheet on my Mac, then saved it to iCloud and exited Numbers. No when I try to download it from iCloud.com, the only download option is "Numbers '09." "excel" and "PDF" are greyed out. Any idea why this is, and how to fix it so I can download it as an Excel file?
