Escape only works if I press shift+esc. How do I change it back to the original setting?

Pretty much what the subject line says. Out of nowhere, my escape key only functions if I press shift+esc. The physical key itself is not broken, but it seems a setting in the OS was changed somehow and I don't know how to revert back.

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

The problem in my case was with the application Box.net SimpleShare.

The app intercepted the ESC key for whatever reason. Simply exiting the application solved the issue. For users with this issue, remove the application (or at least from your login items).

Dennis, thanks for your help.
