Installing Printers on Intel iMac

Hi

This is my first post, so please be gentle...

I have just moved over from a G5 iMac to an Intel based one (from a PC a few weeks before).

I am trying to install a Lexmark X83 and Kodak Printer Dock 6000. I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers from both companies, but when I go into the printer configuration utility neither can be seen. There appear to be folders and files installed in the "Library" on the HD.

The printer dock doubles as a camera USB connection, and I can import pictures from the camera. The Lexmark is a printer/scanner combo and I can get the scanner to work fine, so I guess the USB conection is good.

Both printers worked fine last week on my G5 Mac - would new drivers be required to work on an Intel Mac; I would have though the O/S abstracts that?

Any assistance would be gratefully received, and I am happy to post details of the drivers etc if that will help.

Thanks in advance
Mark

Take a look at this apple info page. Your printer may not be supported by Tiger. I had an HP Printer that would not work with my intel iMac, turns out it was just not supported by Tiger even though previous OS X versions were supported. Ultimately I ended up purchasing a new printer.

I think I may have a relatively easy solution: try replacing your USB cable with a new, high quality one.

I have 17" iMac Core Duo and when printing to an HP LaserJet 3330 (all-in-one) I kept getting the error "The process "hppostprocessing" stopped unexpectedly with status 13"

After switching to a different (newer) cable it now work flawlessly. For whatever reason, the iMac wasn't communicating fully through the old cable. It knew the printer was there, but not enough of the message was getting through and I believe the error above is some sort of timeout message.

Hope this works for you (and others having this issue).

Have just receive this useful, if slightly disappointing response from Lexmark

"Please accept my heartfelt apologies for the problems you are experiencing
with your Lexmark product. To the best of my knowledge, there are currently
no plans to develop Intel based Macintoshes drivers to support this model.
Thank you for notifying us of this request. I will forward your comments on
to our development department, as it is only through input from you, our
customers, that we can make these important business decisions."

Guess it's time to go shopping again

I just bought a Canon LBP 5000 (connected via USB 2). Could not find OS X Driver on the CD ROM so I downlodaded the English version from their web page. After installing three times the printer eventually showed up in the list together with the right driver. When printing everything looked fine until after 5 seconds the tool said JOB STOPPED.

For Intel based Macs you seem to need the Japanese version of the driver
The installer is in Japanese, no problem just click the default buttons and then add the printer via system preferences. My LBP 5000 prints just fine although not all the functions seem to be available.

Mine, too, thanks to Roger!
Problem was to connect a hp1320nw via AirPort. Printer could be selected in the print menu, choosing the "bonjour" option, and could be safed in the list of printers.
When printing an error message occured: "The process "hppostprocessing" terminated unexpectedly on signal 5".
Now I am printing fine. Only thing, minor problem but still annoying: For printing I have to change to a computer-to-computer network ("hpsetup") and then back to my AirPort network for internet and e-mail use. I guess I'll now try to find another discussion solving that problem.
Thanks again to Roger.

Bluemoon and Rogerdee are 100% correct with printer advice. These Intels hate drivers that aren't specifically intended for Intel. I bought an Epson RX620 and hooked it up with no problem. However within a couple weeks I could see that the print quality was getting worse. I looked on the website and it stated that Intel users must download the correct driver and twain. Works great now.

Just had simnilar problems with Lexmark X1190 printer/scanner and my new iMac Intel on 10.4.6. The Lexmark worked fine on my old iBook running 10.3.latest.

I found that by getting a driver from downloaddelivery.com and making Printer Setup Utility open with Rosetta the problems appear to have been solved. Details below incase they are a help to anyone else.

Installing and using was problematic. Couldn't find a driver on the website. Tried a new USB2 cable. Contacted Lexmark in France and they sent me a link for the driver at http://www.downloaddelivery.com/srfilecache/CJMX1100L1.hqx

The installation was still a bit wierd and I can't remember exactly how I got it going - but I did. I remember I couldn't find the printer, but after a restart (that wasn't suggested by the installer) it was there. EXCEPT that my iMac went into a hang when I wanted to restart or shutdown with the Lexmark plugged in, even if it was turned off by hand. That had been my original problem.

Lexmark (France) have kindly sent me a replacement printer as I 'proved a fault' by having the same problem with my new MacBook on 10.4.6

However I got an idea from reading about the need for Rosetta to make my Mail run the hotmail http plugin (Get Info on Mail app and open in Rosetta) and after a lot of footling around saw the option to open the PSU with Rosetta. Go Finder/Applications/Utilities and single click on Printer Setup Utility. Go File/Get Info and check the box to open with Rosetta. I then restarted the iMac, in case it was useful, and the Lexmark is working fine.... so far.

Hope this is useful
