Do anyone from apple read this discussion?
No. If you read the forum Terms of Use you ageed to when you joined, you would know that already.
As to your problem, this is what Apple has to say:
i had the same problem is this is what fixed it, turn the 3G on and off
u cant switch off 3G in 4s!! u can complete switch off the Data though!
already updated no change!!
Okay here is my story...
Purchased my phone on Nov 4th nothing but problems with coverage. AT&T support reset network, replace sim card and finally restore phone to receive "tweaked 5.0.1" update. Nothing worked keeps searching for signal.
Replaced phone worked fine for 24hrs then the dreaded searching for signal error came up again.
Replaced sim card still acting up!!!!
Okay dig deeper.....
I noticed that my sister asked me if I received a picture she had sent which I did not.
So she sent it to me again and low and behold I lose signal.
No really!!!!
Asked her to send it to my wife same thing she lost signal.
Okay the fix.
With iMessage turned off the iPhone could not process the picture and in the process I lost signal
Turned iMessage on....... Shazaam problem solved.
Hope it works
Hey Guys,
I bought an Iphone 4S 2 days ago and I had the same problem as many people here. The signal issue, switching to searching and finally no signal.
However, last night looking for solving this trouble I found out a post explaining how to fix it and I would like to share with you cause since last night I haven't been having signal headache so far.
It's all about the update and this issue is affecting some Iphone users with version 5.0.1 (9A405).
Now my version is 5.0.1 (9A406) and everything is doing great.
Take a look to this link: http://iphone-and-i.blogspot.com/2011/12/fixing-iphone-4s-signal-problem.html

HAPPY NEW YEAR and hopefully it will help you!
Bought my 64gb 4s over month ago...
due to this searching/no signal i'm on my third phone now..
have restored software numerous times
had 2 new sims
and yet the problem keeps coming back... and i'm certain i've isolated the problem
several of the times it froze or shut off, once i reset the phone i would receive a message from my gf asking if I got the picture she just sent...
I am CERTAIN 100% that whatever picture she is sending is causing this problem... it has occured always when she tried to send me a pic... yesterday she sent me a pic several times but i never got it... this morning i look at my phone and its off (i never turn it off, and i knew it was happening agian. I turn it on and of course back to the cycling Searching and then Signal and Searching and then signal... finally a happy text comes through from her saying "did you get the picture i sent. She has a My Touch on T-mobile (Android).... something she is sending is doing this.. for sure... no doubts now... I havd my suspicions before but now I'm certain...
NO THE NEW 5.0.1 build didn't fix it, NO a new SIM doesn't fix it, and new phone doesn't fix it... only restoring the software fixes the problem.. but I shouldn't havve to do this every 2-3 days... this is beyond ridiculous I've been to the apple genius bar 10+ times for this issue now...
ANY IDEAS WHATSOEVER??? its something to do with her sending me a pic
also: I get many pics from other people.... no issue. and when i had my iphone 4 a friend who had a windows phone when she sent a pic would always rebuild my photo library so i learned that pics from her phone were usually not saveble without doing that rebuilding library bs.... the point being that for sure what people send can affect our devices......
I followed JayFu's link and my phone is working. I'll re-post if my 'searching...' problem comes back. I didn't do any of the other suggestions except power off my phone a few times before reading all these comments. I don't know much about electronics, so the detailed instructions were great. It did take a long time though.
Hi meanpea, I'm glad that your mobile is working... It's so frustrating afford a new electronic device that can be used.
My searching issue is still fixed and hopefully it remains forever.
I had/have the same problem. At first I got a new Sim Card (ATT is my carrier), as soon as I got i up and running it worked for literally 3 minutes before it started "searching..." again. I took the phone to the Apple store and got it replaced. I had the phone for about a week and it started "searching..." fiasco again. I did a restored, worked fine for about 5 days and then it started the viscious cycle again.
I realized the common thread between the times that the "searching..." starting was when my girlfriend would send me pictures from her Andriod phone. She would always asked if I received them but I never got them. Instead I would just get the "searching...".
Have you found a way of fixing it? (or has anyone found a fix?)
My signal problem went away with Apple's 9A406 build. Check this out for the tutorial. http://iphone-and-i.blogspot.com/2011/12/fixing-iphone-4s-signal-problem.html
Yes, call AT&T support they finally have a temporary fix around the mms problem. Buts it's on a individual basis. When they put the patch on your mms make sure you leave iMessage on. This should do it. Hector
You have a signal problem unrelated to the issue we are having. That new build does NOTHING for us. We are losing signal every time certain Android users send us a picture from their phone.
Freakin crazy that someone can send something that we never see nor open yet ***** out phone up.
I feel your pain. This is EXACTLY same issue as me. My gf has a My Touch on T-Mobile and sending certain pics sends my phone into the searching problem. It's a bunch of bs. How can we be so vulnerable to a picture that can ruin our phone without even opening or receiving the picture? It's beyond me. I'm on my 3rd 4s but now I realize it's some other issue. I've tried it all. Restores. New 5.0.1 build. New phones. New sims. Nothing stops it.
What EXACTLY did they say the problem is? I had AT&T completely reprovision my line and it didn't solve anything.
