I have synced a number of movies to my Apple TV (1st generation) but can't figure out how to watch them from the ATV-1 hard drive rather than wirelessly from iTunes - also I cannot watch them wirelessly from iTunes because the video freezes and it takes a rest to get APT running again. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I'd be inclined to try a trailer or podcast first. You can make sure it's playing synced content by quitting iTunes.
Yes - or even the source material used for the conversion could be peculiar in terms of frame rate or something.
Let's hope it's a software not a hardware issue.
Thanks guys - I'll start by checking a free iTunes TV show. If that works - then I'll quit iTunes and see if the videos synced to the Apple TV1 play. If they don't I'll try to reencode a couple of videos using the Apple TV1 setting on Handbrake.
Yes - the photos are playing as my screen saver.
..and yes, I did jailbreak it and installed Boxee and XMBT (?) hoping to stream directly from my hard drive instead of going through iTunes but can't get that to work either. I got them installed but can't make the streaming function work..
I do get YouTube videos however with no problem

Winston & Alley Cat: Thanks for the help. The problem was solved by changing the setting on Handbrake and then reconverting the video using the Apple TV setting.
