SD Card can not be erased / formatted

Didn’t work for me, I had the same issue on an iMac, tried the tape, tinfoil and mid-position tricks to no avail. I used a led light to see inside the slot and it was all in fact just pins. a pin is pushed when the card slider is in “lock” position preventing the OS from writing. I used tweezers to scrub inside the lock recess in the iMac slot, plugged the SD afterwards and it worked. might have been jammed with dirt and dust.

How is it formatted?

It sounds like it is formatted with a file system that not writable on the Mac.

Reformat it.

This will wipe out all data so back up first.

No I didn't miss your point about the cards not being locked. The format of the card has noting to do with the card being locked or not locked. There are certain formats which OS X can't write to at all.

Same for me after last Lion update, suddenly all sdcards are locked. Yes the were accecable before the update.

It seems that some driver or the sd slot got brooken. If I put the locktap between locked and unlocked it works.

I tried this and it worked for me too. I had to play with the lock switch a copy of times to get it in the right spot. I can't believe it worked but it did.

Hey I found a solution to this. Before I bought my Mac I had an external SD card reader that connects via USB, you can get them really cheap nowdays. Anyways, I was having the same issue with not being able to write to my SD card and the permissions reading 'read only', I tried it via USB with the card reader and it worked

Unfortunately, some SD cards cannot be written to with the stock card reader built into Macbook pro and other Apple computers, stupid I know and a clear problem. Anyways, this worked for me and hope it works for you!
