how to unsync iphoto and facebook

I have successfully unsynced my iphoto and facebook, which allows me to delete photos/edit photos from iphoto without affecting my facebook pictures and albums. Here's how it's done.

Go to iphoto.

Click on "iphoto" in top left of your screen (in the tool bar)

Click on "preferences"

Click on "accounts"

Highlight your facebook account and hit the minus sign below.

Check the box that appears, and away you go.

Your facebook will now be disabled from your iphoto and your f/b pics will be safe.

I would advise not re-syncing, as I don't know what will happen if you do. Now that I've come this far, I'm not going to bother finding out!

I safely emptied my iphoto trash, which held 4600 deleted pictures in it. Many of these pics were posted on my facebook. Once emptied, my facebook pictures were still safely showing on f/b. (when you empty your iphoto trash, you must then go to the trash can on your dock as the photos have been moved to a folder there. Delete that folder to permanently delete your trashed pics).

Hi Catherine,

I have iphoto '11. I'm sorry I can't help you. I'm a relatively new Mac user, and I don't know if there's a way to do it with the version of iphoto that you have. 😟

Okay so my next question then... is iPhoto '11 worth me upgrading to. I have read really awful reviews on a bug that it has..

I really don't know, Catherine. Firstly, I don't know anything about HOW to upgrade. Do you have to buy the new version? Secondly, I really don't know about bugs and whatnot because I don't have anything to compare it to. I've had my Mac for 2 years, and take a ton of photos every day for my work, and so far, iphoto has been great. It did crash once, but I called Apple, and they helped me to "retreive my photos and restore my library". I'm so sorry I can't be of more help.

In order to upgrade to iPhoto '11 I have to go to the app store an purchase it it is 15$... I was just reading some reviews that talked about the app crashing a lot and that syncing with other devices didn't really work. I just wanted some feedback from someone who is using it. Thank you!

It works just fine - if you notice eacha nd every time a new version of any software comes out there are lots of "I have a problem" posts - Millions and Millions and Millions of people us iPhjoto '11 - a few have problems (a few also have propblems with older versions - the key to to always backup prior to doing any upgrade of any software in case of problems

I can not follow your steps as I do not have the option to choose ACCOUNTS in PREFERENCES so that I can unsync. I have iPhoto '09 and MacBook Pro. I really don't want to pay to upgrade. As photos continue to disappear as I delete them from my iPhoto pictures, I no longer upload to FB from iPhoto. I REALLY want to unsync FB for prior uploads. I see that you have iPhoto '11, but if you do find a solution for '09, please let us know what it is as I and others will appreciate your efforts. Thank you.

Larry, I cannot find the accounts button to unsync in version 1 of the new Photos.

Any suggestions?
