Greyed out "Sync" button...Much help needed

When I connect my iphone 4 (which is up to date and also my itunes is up to date) to the computer (Windows 7) to sync music, app, etc the "Sync" button is greyed out so I cannot sync anything whatsoever. Also, the "Apply" button is greyed out. This happened right after I upgraded to ios 5...restarted the computer and the phone...restored....reinstalled itunes itself...waited a month for a new update to come out...all the checks that needs to be checked are checked...googled tons of stuff...asked my techy friends...been there, done that, got a t-shirt, but unfortunately nothing seems to help this specific case.

I can download songs apps and stuff directly from the phone but I do not plan on buying all 300+ songs neither the 100+ apps again...but that is another option and I am aware of that.

I have considered iCloud but for many reasons I have decided not to use iCloud.

Pretty sure I wrote all the information that is necessary but if not please ask.

Any Suggestion for now is Appreciated!!

Thanks in Advance 🙂

This is the first time I am venturing in this arena of giving my input....so if I make any error, pls do forgive me.

I was facing the same problem and wasted almost 4 hours and then after trying all that has been mentioned in this site and many others I tried this and to my surprise it worked:

In my iphone (I have a 4S) Go to 'Settings' - 'General' - 'Reste' - 'Reset All Settings' and clicked red colour 'Reset All settings' button.

After That I connected my Phone to the Itunes, after which I got a reduced 'Others' agrea (my 'others' areas was reduced from 11.1 gb to 0.80gb) and then I clicked all the necessary folders in my itunes and synced...at this monment when I am writing this post my Iphone is being synced as before.

I hope this will be help full so some of you guys.

Hi

I have been having a similar problem with greyed out syc button and iphone not being recognised.

I was using a 3rd party connection cord to connect to the imac but normally it just plugs into the car usb to keep the phone charged. When i swapped the cord to the white mac one suddenly the phone was recogised and the syc started imediately. What eventually gave me a clue to how to solve the problem was that when plugged into the 3rd party cord, a message came up on the phone saying that is was unable to charge the battery from this cord. This message has today come up for the first time after using the cord for a few days now.???

All is fine now.

Hi, i had been struggling for days trying to solve this issue. What ever happened to just having a folder to drop files in eh? Anyway, it turns out that if some of the associated programs of apple and or itunes are denied internet access, then it stops itunes working. I use zonealarm and around 4 associated programs of itunes; itunes helper, apple push service, mobile device helper, and itunes itself had all been deined access to the internet via zone alarm. Grant these programs access and any others that have been denied and it should then allow your iphone to sync. I hope this helps everyone. Its such a ball ache when this kinda thing happens.

Okay so after I did the above steps I also followed these wonderful steps:

Basically you just reset your phone, back it up, restore it. All I had to do was reset it and everything is fine and intact (I had already backed up, by the way. Best to be safe).

Hope this helps everyone else.

A simple hard reset did the trick for me. Thanks for the tip!
