iPhone 4s keeps asking for the wrong Apple ID

I am on my second iPhone 4s. The first one had a faulty microphone (delay) and it was replaced by the Apple store and restored via the iCloud backup. But soon after it was restored, I noticed that anytime I plug the phone into my computer, and occasionally at other times, right after syncing the phone asks me for my Apple ID password, but the Apple ID displayed is not mine. It IS, however, the Apple ID of my wife, but that ID is only used on her laptop, was never associated with my iTunes account, or with this phone. If I delete her account and enter mine and the password, it seems to accept it, but then asks for hers again immediately. All I can do is hit cancel. When it asks for it at random times it sometimes has the ID field locked, so I can't even try to change it.

Everywhere I look in the settings of my phone, I see my Apple ID (general settings, store settings, etc) not hers.

It is possible that I once plugged the phone into her laptop to charge it, but I'm not sure about that.

I've attached some pics to show you what I mean.

My first inclination is to restore teh phone from backup, but I'm worried it will restore whatever caused this glitch.

This is more of annoyance than anything, but it is really annoying.

Okay, i could be wrong, cause its only been 5 hours, but i think i found the simplest solution that was staring me right in the face. btw i just a new 4S and restored it with an icloud backup and was having the same problem for the last 2 days, and YES, it is very annoying. Next time it prompts any of you with the wrong apple ID, instead of tapping cancel or ok, click on the username field and just delete it, then enter your own CORRECT apple ID username and password and tap OK.

In the case that the problem is having a few pending downloads in iTunes, here's what I did: Plug your phone into your computer and add those songs or apps that are pending download onto your phone, in my case it was like 8 songs. Once you've done this, I believe the phone will ask you to enter those unknown Apple IDs, but just exit out of them and it should be fine, from what I remember. Either way, putting those pending downloads on the phone (or removing them if they are already on the phone, and then re-adding them) should fix it, if you are having the pending download problem. Hope that helps.

Having just restored my iPhone 4 through my iCloud backup and ended up with the same problem of a number of random apple ID's constantly showing up on my iphone, i may have discovered the cause of the problem.

It seems that when your phone is trying to restore data from the could that might not have necessarily been obtained throught, lets say, ligitimate means............... it can not proccess the download without the other users password.

To get rid of the password prompts all i had to do was add those, in my case anyway, albums back onto my iphone and voila!

Hope this has helped

okay guys everyone who was having the same problem.. so was I it was definitley random peoples apple ID user names and it wasn't like i was downlading an app or anything it was just random... anyways i read this and your comments and i tried everything but i was like enough is enough I am super annoyed of this popping up sooooo I called for support and got help by talking to not a robot but a real life person.

what he told me was:

1. Make sure you have the LATEST UPDATE (5.1.1) how do you get the latest update?

on your iphone just go to settings > general > software update > install

IF YOU'RE IPHONE THING IS GRAY TO PRESS INSTALL.. turn off your phone by holding down the power button and the circle button (as if you were taking a screen shot) turn it back on again and it should have install now thats how mine was.

and if not just do it through itunes.

2. Now that your iphone has the latest updates.... go back to settings.

3. settings > icould

make sure your icloud has the account under your own account not some random or your wifes but your own

4. settings> messages

IF THE Imessage is on and under your account just turn imessage off...

YOUR BUBBLE MAY NOT BE BLUE ANYMORE WHEN YOU TEXT OTHER PEOPLE WITH IPHONES... but hey at least no more annnoying random people accounts pop up....

what i am going to do is leave mine off for a day or two and then later on turn it back on and sign in under my account because honestly i love seeing my bubble blue lol and but i do not want people to get a text from me under my email so idk ill let you know and if you have any help for me what to do after that would be great.

I really hope it stops popping up for you this is what the guy told me to do and it hasnt popped up since. but keep me updated! 🙂

and if all else fails call and try talking to an actual person you know just call the apple store or set up an appointment...

I am having this same problem, got a replacement 4s from the Apple store, keeps trying to log into other people's itunes accounts.

I asked an Apple programmer buddy about it. He thinks I must have songs in my Itunes that are registered to those peoples accounts (one is a buddy of mine and he did put some songs on my MacBook the last time I saw him. the other is a random that I don't know.) I haven't been able to test it out yet though.

He thinks it didn't happen with the first phone because it would have been plugged into my MacBook, so any authorization of those songs would have transfered over to the phone but now that it is restored from iCloud, it didn't have the authentifications, so its trying to get them.

> make sure your icloud has the account under your own account not some random or your wifes but your own

So what is the story here? Is Apple seriously using the iCloud ID now for purchases in iOS 5.1.1? Why bother to enter an App Store ID in the settings? iOS used to use the App Store account as it should.

My wife and I share an Apple ID for the store, and now she cannot update apps anymore. Her phone presents her iCloud email (on a 4S), since the App Store is set to the shared email account. So the only solution is to either remove iCloud, or put both phones on the same iCloud account (which was a total nightmare).

Same problem here... icloud account is set to me... my hubby and I have some of the same apps but we both purchased seperately in our own Itunes accounts, there is nothing on mine I can find that is not mine. under settings my id is my id. yet still asking for his password and now I tried to use my ipad and its now started doing it there too not just on my iphone. my login id when the prompt comes up is not changable as one person suggested. This all started when my hubby downloaded the software 2 days ago for his iphone the #6 version. I tried downloading it to my device today to resolve and then it morphed to my ipad too. Wheres the fix APPLE????

I have a solution!

I had this problem after getting my iPhone 5 and restoring it from a backup on from my old 3gs. I went under Settings > iCloud > Storage and noticed there was an option to "Stop Restore". Hit that, and was not prompted for any more random apple ID log ins!

I guess iCloud was trying to restore something from an old ID, hence why it kept poppin up.
