iPhone 4s keeps asking for the wrong Apple ID

I am on my second iPhone 4s. The first one had a faulty microphone (delay) and it was replaced by the Apple store and restored via the iCloud backup. But soon after it was restored, I noticed that anytime I plug the phone into my computer, and occasionally at other times, right after syncing the phone asks me for my Apple ID password, but the Apple ID displayed is not mine. It IS, however, the Apple ID of my wife, but that ID is only used on her laptop, was never associated with my iTunes account, or with this phone. If I delete her account and enter mine and the password, it seems to accept it, but then asks for hers again immediately. All I can do is hit cancel. When it asks for it at random times it sometimes has the ID field locked, so I can't even try to change it.

Everywhere I look in the settings of my phone, I see my Apple ID (general settings, store settings, etc) not hers.

It is possible that I once plugged the phone into her laptop to charge it, but I'm not sure about that.

I've attached some pics to show you what I mean.

My first inclination is to restore teh phone from backup, but I'm worried it will restore whatever caused this glitch.

This is more of annoyance than anything, but it is really annoying.

I don't have the option of clicking on my wife's apple id when the dialog box opens and prompts me to enter my wife's password. Her password is inactive and she is not receiving the emails to reset it, hence my need to change the apple id to mine so that I can sign in and allow the updates in the apple store. So Jameson's approach is not working for me. Thoughts, anyone?

My problem with this started 2 days ago. When I go to some apps it brings oup the box and asks for my Apple ID. I am the only one on my phone and nothing changed.

I just exited iTunes and and logged in again so I will see if that works. One thing I noticed, and I don't know if this matters but in iCLoud on my computer, it shows my email as my icloud.com address which is my backup address. On my phone, everything is correct.

I also never pay for anything so there is nothing waiting. So time will tell if logging out of iTunes and reentering my information will work.

I'm also going to try the suggestion of actually entering my log in information vs. just pressing cancel. Very annoying.

You are right and your iphone is registered with your new AppleID. However, any apps or music purchased with a previous AppleID will still be connected to that user ID. Your problem is evident when you actually try to update one of the applications downloaded with the original AppleID. To fix this problem, simply delete the application on the iPhone and re-install it. It will prompt for a password again and this time your current Apple ID will pop up. I hope this sheds some light.

Hello,

Actually you are incorrect. It had nothing to do with apps.

What I did to solve the problem was log out of iTunes on my phone and log back in. That was it.

I haven't had a problem since then. Another option I've read about was to just type in the Apple ID and password every time it came up and it would stop. Not sure if that works though.

I actually had this happen to me and it's been happening since I had my iPhone 4S replaced.

My theory : My replacement iPhone was somehow linked with another Apple ID previously (refurb unit?) and when I backed up my data to iCloud is kept that link. Whenever I restored (or when I upgraded to the 5) it always prompted me for someone elses Apple ID in addition to my own. (This was not the result of sharing music or apps with someone.)

If you're really bothered by it I fixed it by ...

1. Backup iPhone to iCloud AND your local computer.

2. Erase all settings from the iPhone

3. Restore iPhone from the local computer.

4. Delete iCloud backup (once you're sure all of your content is there) and then create a new iCloud backup.

5. Restore from iCloud (you shouldn't be prompted for the incorrect ID again.)

(Or at least I wasn't. Your mileage may vary.)
