No sound coming from my iPhone 4s.

go to settings scroll down to general then to accessibility scroll to assistive touchturn on a black n white button appears click the button four icons appear click the device one click the bell icon to the opposite of what it was on then come out of it by turning offassistive touch and hopefully this will do it it did for me .............my icon on the bell now has a line running through it try it

I still continued with the same problem and followed all advice, but still no joy, went to apple store and they did a update but still no joy and as my phone was just out of warranty they offered me a brand new handset 4s for £139, which I was not too happy about as wasn't my fault but need a working phone :(

Go to:

Settings

General

Accesability

Assistive touch - switch to on.

using the assistive touch (the white circle that now appears on your screen), go to:

Device

Then tap the bell (mute) icon.

This should fix the issue. To test it (without having to wait for someone to call you) write an SMS and see if the keyboard clicks are audible.

I hope this solves your issue like it did mine. If it doesn't maybe try tapping that mute icon again and/or flicking the actual mute bottom on the left hand side of your iPhone.

Mine was my dock connector, I plugged it into the usb charging cord and pressed up gently and tried listening to a sample song in itunes it played quick then cut out so I wiggled the cord a little more (gently) and got my sound back. Hope this helps.

I found this and it worked for me. 4s 6.1.1 no sound

I just got my phone and it worked great for 2 days then no sound. After a couple frustrating days of trying everything I got it working. My volume was turned up on the side but it didn't work. This is what I did, I pushed the round button on the bottom of the phone,the one with the square in it, two times really fast then a screen came up with apps on it. I scrolled as far over to the right as I could go and found a volume control that was turned off, slid it all the way up and I have sounds again. Have had to do it again since but at least I know how to fix it now.

My iPhone sounds (apart from the ringtone) suddenly vanished; I got a small pin and removed a crapload of pocket-lint from both the headphone socket and the charger socket, and sound was restored immediately.

I am experiencing a scratchy noise on my iPhone 4S speakers. It comes and goes, but once it starts it gets to the point were I can't hear anything anymore. It starts with scratchy noises and then no noise. This happens with every sound, ringing, music,etc. But I can hear perfectly with headphones. Please help!

I got a 4s and i simply just turned my phone off and waited 30 seconds, now my sound is back on...GIve it a try 🙂

I guess I've joined the 'no-sound-from-my-iPhone4-club. The thing with me is that I get SOME sound, it kinda comes and goes!! It's driving me nuts. Also when I have a audio cable plugged in, my Bluetooth turns on, then no sound. I'm really thinking about getting a android phone. And I'd thought I would stay with my iPhone forever. This really *****.

I had the same problem and I was trying to fix it and then I accedentally dropped my phone and everything went back to normal... weird.

If you can get to a place that has an appleTV or anything that will accept airtunes, you can tell if you need to clean the headphone or the dock connector. If you click on the airtunes icon with nothing plugged in, you should see the name of your airtunes receiver (in my case an appleTV) and "iPhone" will be checked. When you have headphones plugged you will see "Headphones" checked. When there is nothing plugged in and "Headphones" is checked that you need to clean the headphone jack. If nothing is plugged in and "Dock Connector" is check you need to clean the 30 pin connector on the bottom. The airtunes icon will only show up when you are on a network with an airtunes receiver like an AppleTV.
