DON'T DOWNLOAD NEW ITUNES! (IF IT ISN'T BROKEN THEN DON'T FIX IT) :)
What I did was uninstall and delete EVERYTHING. I uninstalled Ipod, Itunes, Quicktime. I pulled up my "search" window and searched all of the above and deleted everything that had to do with the above names. Unfortanatly I had to delete all my music files (6.8 days worth)which became corrupted. and then when everything was gone I reinstalled iTunes (with the disk that came with my iPod of course). Now everything is as it was, working properly and not making me curse Apple. I know this really ***** for those of you with huge music files but it seems to work. I hope this helps.
