iPhone 4S Music Player Issues

Hey guys and girls,

Ever since I got my 4S and back to the times of my 4, I've been having Music Player issues. Some songs will go to them and then instantly skip onto the next song. This happens set on and off shuffle. These songs also do not show their album cover and change over within a second of going to them. If that doesn't happen, every 5th or so song sends me back to the main Music Screen and then turns the music off.

I'm running iOS 5.0.1 but I've tried rolling it back to iOS 5. Ever since I upgraded to iOS 5 with my iPhone 4 or 4S I've been plagued with these constant issues.

Does anyone know of any fixes out there? Or anyone else having these problems too?

I am having exactly the same issue. I think the phone will only play files that are mp3 and NOT mp4 or M4a etc. This is frustrating considering that ALL of my songs have either been uploaded from Cd's or bought through iTunes. They ALL played perfect on my iPhone 4. But not iPhone 4s... And I think it may be a bug with the latest software update. I hope this is fixed soon. I have reset all settings... Started over, etc. etc. nothing seems to solve the issue.

I fixed the issue by deleting all of my music from my iTunes Library and iPhone. I then re-added all my music from my PC, Mac and iTunes Store to the Library. I then moved it back onto my iPhone and haven't had a problem since. Luckily I have all of my music stored in a single area so it was easy to find and restore anything.

Hope this helped.

It happens to me too, and I'm thinking it's the memory issue. I use an iPhone 4S 64GB model. The music skips one song forward when on shuffle, backward button does not work, songs play on different artwork/names, sometimes songs do not play even though the statusbar indicates the song is playing. Try playing music in your car, it's gonna drive you bizerk. Restoring does fix the problem permantely. Though, if you restore a couple times more, the problem comes back again. This is the second time in a row.

My iphone 4 8G is also having issues with the music player that seem to have just started in the last 2-3 weeks.

1. Music/Artwork not matching:

I dock my phone at work on an aftermarket speaker and have it set on shuffle. When I first dock it and have it start playing, it seems to be fine. If I click to advance to the next song (either by clicking on the button on the speaker or on the phone), it will show album artwork and song title for another song, but the music playing doesn't match the artist or title. When I click advance again, it switches to new artwork, but NOW it plays the song for the previous artwork. I started to make note of what artwork was showing everytime I hit the advance in succession and the music would always be one behind. So there's a lag. I'm wondering if when you select Shuffle mode, the player pre-determines your music lineup and that's where this problem is occuring, the sound and picture are not syncing.

2. Artwork scrolling:

Sometimes when I hit advance once, it will scroll through several album covers on the screen and then start to play a song. Sometimes it shows the correct artwork, sometimes it doesn't. Mine also seems to turn off by itself sometimes as Deadpool reported.

3. Music disappearing:

After I've synced my phone, it shows new songs I've added, etc. However, when trying to play music, suddenly the song I selected will not play, although it shows the correct artwork, and the red square with circle icon will appear on that one and many others, all different artists/random songs. When I go to the song list, it still shows all my songs, just now with the red icons on probably 10-20% of them. When I resync to iTunes, the now "missing" ones get reinstalled.

4. Music adding:

I sync using the Sync only from this playlist option and I only use one playlist. Sometimes after I've synced and I start to play music, other songs not on my playlist will be on there although they are in the library shared by my family. I have the phone set to not show other music like from iCloud, WiFi, etc. and I only sync my music by cable to my Mac/iTunes

5. Finally, after syncing to iTunes, it will show only my playlist songs on the On this iPhone tab, even if other music is still on the phone as in the section above.

I've tried resyncing several times, using manual, sync checked songs only, sync playlist. I also manually deleted the music storage on the phone, but when I plug into iTunes it says all the music is still there. All temporary fixes that don't last long. And forget trying to play music in my car with it now. That's even worse! Good thing I still have my old Nano.

If anyone has any ideas, they are appreciated. I've been seeing some of these issues reported singly on the forum, but no one has reported all of these together.
