I just restored my iphone 3G in the process of updating from 4.2.1 to ios 5. After restor it didn't ask to update to ios 5, it asked to set up as new iphone or sync what was backed up. Do I need to set up as new iphone in order to update to version 5?

My iphone 3 does. I plugged it in to itunes for updating and IOS 5.0.1 downloaded onto phone. I messed up a lot of stuff on phone though and I am slowly getting it back to normal. Still have problem with when I end phone call a voicemal box pops up saying incorrect password for voice mail. Not sure how to get rid of that.

I have an iphone 3gs and ive tryed to buy ringtones on my iphone but when i go to buy one it says "Tones are not available on this device. a device that can run ios 5.0 or later is required" So i put into google " download ios 5.0" bit its not working and i can't find anywhere on itunes the download button to download it. its just telling me the features. please help xxx

how did you do this ? did you use itunes?
You can't update a 3G to iOS5. Only the 3GS and later can update to iOS5.
If you have a 3GS, you have to use iTunes to update to iOS5.
